Pontoon front edge protection

#1 Post by garygve » Mon Sep 29, 2014 9:12 pm

Has anyone found a U shaped vinyl, rubber, or plastic molding that can be pushed onto the upper front edge of the pontoons so they don't get damaged when they touch the docks when docking?

In this case I'm thinking the patient is actually fine but running a bit hot and needs to maybe displace a little more speed before running into the doc. It's in the best interest of both the doc and patients well-being is to prescribe an energy absorption barrier to separate them. There are numerous barriers available that could be utilized for this separation.

Here's an example: Dock Edge ProTect Straight Bumper but a lot of other ideas and products are out there.

On the other hand, if you don't want to slow down then at least choose an option that will inflict more damage to pier than the boat. Maybe something like this?

I think this will work, with the aluminum being so soft the leading edge of the pontoon can get nicked fairly easy if it touches the dock. I'm only going to install it from the top down about 18-24" but not to the water line will see how it holds up.

My forward deck extends to the leading edge of the pontoons. I use a fender clipped to my front fence and dropped over the front. It makes a fine cushion and works on most docks.
