Bouncy gas guage?

#1 Post by wijames » Sun Oct 12, 2014 2:34 pm

the needle of my fuel gauge bounces a bit when the boat is moving. Is that likely the gauge or the sending unit? And if it's the sending unit, where might I find one for a 30 year old Tracker boat?

Thanks

A tracker dealer might have one or a bass pro shop.

I found one at Academy the other day. of course when I asked some clown said nahhh!
but I found it on the racks. go figger. The one I found was adjustable to fit most tanks(12 v electric unit)

Probably a loose connection, check the wires on the back of the tach, and at your fuel tank.

They are not specific to Tracker. They are usually made by Moeller, Teleflex, Sea Choice etc. Usually a bad ground, check all your connections and if they are good, remove the old sender, measure it and replace it.

Amen to the bad ground. Mine went on the fritz this year, and I ran a new (16 ga) wire from the battery ground to the ground side of the sending unit. Problem fixed.
