Oh! I'm Baaaaaaaack!

#1 Post by BobG » Tue Oct 14, 2014 9:26 am

Heavy work load has kept me away, but it's improving.

Spent 20 weekends on the water this season.
After 3 years, the boat has over 2,600 miles and 525 hours on it.

Best summer of my entire life!

That's great! I envy you! You always take really cool pics, post some up!
This summer I had the boat out maybe 6 times, put about 8 hours on it. The Mississippi River was at flood stage all spring and midway through July. Overtime at work and rotten weather after the water did go down, kept us dry. Toss in Denise' illness, even though she is doing great, she wore out quickly in the heat. Sold the condo down at LotO, because the OT at work just wouldn't allow us to get down to use it.
Hoping to get out a few more times yet this fall. I'm not ready to winterize yet! As I'm writing this I'm watching it rain like a monsoon and I'm working overtime again tonight and for the next 9 days after Thursday!
We have hired 4 more techs recently and are getting them trained. The bosses say that will help with overtime, even though we have 9 techs retiring.... And with the global warming, the flood waters should evaporate faster next summer, and the earth tilted a bit more to the south, so the water should flow downstream faster. So things are looking up!
Thank God the countdown to retirement is on!

Just checked that reservoir out online, looks pretty good. Maybe a destination to visit...is there lodging (not camping) close by to consider? Now with the new boat I would like to explore some new destinations since we here in SoCal are limited with lakes.
Thanks for any info.

Actually there are some great little cabins at the west end (about a mile from Lake Fork Marina), at about $100 a night - includes full kitchen and bath.

Burnin Daylight Ranch Resort: http://www.bluemesaresort.com

The kids that run them aren't real great about answering the phone, so be persistent!

Blue Mesa is the largest reservoir in Colorado, at about 16 miles long. When it's really busy, it's still not crowded.

I've been rebuilding the balcony and screen porches on the lake side of our house all Summer. We have only used 3/4 of a 21 gallon tank all year. I finally got the Waverunner going on Labor Day.

We'll be back on the water in 2015. and looking to our 200 mile one way run downriver from Chattanooga.

With the lake in our front yard, we can just run 1/2 mile out into the middle of the river to watch the sunsets. We don't have to burn much fuel to have a great time.
