End of season, boat coming out

#1 Post by Oldboater » Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:00 am

Well it is that time of the year, getting my boat taken out. I keep it on a lift during season. I am in Ocean City, MD.

Didn't use it as much as normal as wife had back injury at beginning of season.

Yep, mine is coming out this weekend also. Lost a good month of early boating due to rain and high water, but otherwise had a nice summer. :thumbsup

No end to the season here. We may slack off during the holidays and January due to cold but the water stays liquid and we go when we can.

The Admiral had a mis-step getting off our boat on Memorial Day - Torn ACL, MCL and PCL. Not to mention falling into 54 degree water. Her position was "I'm in pain, I might as well be in pain on the boat." We went every weekend, except one weekend when I was having surgery. That's 20 weekends on the water.

Yeah, this is the last weekend I'm probably going to be taking mine out. It's kinda sad, but I'm ready for the colder weather and the holidays!

I had a great first year of boating. We broke a few things, but we had a lot of fun. I have a few mods to do during the winter like adding a trolling motor and another house battery. Man, I still can't believe how fast summer went this year!

We keep ours on a lift in our dock. Any nice weekend that comes up, we will be taking it out. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we'll get to take it out and go doing a little leaf peeping around the lake.

Wife and I are going to try some shrimping next week. This is our first year boating in Georgia. All of our married lives spent boating in Pa. and N.J. Really gonna enjoy not laying up for the winter.

I always dread the weekend we tuck the boat away. But once it's done, I like the change. It's all but November already. The holidays season is here. Lots of interesting and fun family things to do. By the time I blink, it'll be January. Then it's time to do the 100day countdown to launching the boat 1st week of April. But for right now...it's still melancholy.

Here in N East Texas, it will get a little chill and maybe just maybe a snow for 2-3 days. I put our toon under cover and I can if needed put a heat strip on motor, even tho I drained water out engine. Cause it may come a HEAT spell here and get to 50 in Dec-Jan-Feb. and thats when the Crappie come out to play in the deep water creeks that run thru the lake around here and thats time to go get some good eatin' fish. So out comes the toon. We use one those propane heaters for our hands to warm, then we catch some fishes and maybe adult beverage. I do think it gets cold here we even had some temps to 18 but that was cold everything freezes and if it come any wet precip its a mess.
Ya''ll have a good winter. Now I gotta go get some fire wood.

Im hangin on long as I can before I power down for the winter. Boat stays in a slip on a lift so that does make it easier. Oklahoma weather is so unpredictable you never know what you are going to get from now until the end of the year. Hoping we get another weekend for some leaf peeping but with two kiddos in sports, weekend time is non existent once school starts...Thats ok, one day they will be grown and gone and I will be missing all this
I'm thinkin the week before Thanksgiving will be the end of it . Gonna try something.. going to take a huge polytarp and cover the the entire boat, including the playpen cover in hopes of keeping the bird shit off as it sets for 3 1/2 months in the slip. Marinas are nasty as you know. I figure if I wrap it up good , when spring comes, I can just throw the damned tarp away and the play pen cover wont be nasty. Put moth balls in the storage bins and around the floor to keep out the critters and we should be good.

Luckily we don't have issues with birds on our dock -- but the big ass spiders shitting all over the boat drives me crazy. We have to put the cover on it at the end of every weekend to keep the spider shit off the seats. I'm hoping this winter has a few warmer days like 2 years ago (not like last winter). We love to take the boat out in the winter and just putt along with a nice cup of coffee followed up with a bloody mary cocktail.
