Hauling Kayaks

#1 Post by C_M_25 » Sat Oct 25, 2014 12:33 pm

Anybody have a setup to haul a kayak with them on the toon??

We have a lot of skinny water that would be cool to get a kayak in, but it is a helluva long way to paddle.

There was a thread a while back about this and someone suggested under the toon, but it would not work with a tri toon . how about inside the playpen.

Yeah, it seems like it would be pretty easy to build a bracket that clips on to the trim that goes around the bottom edge of the flooring and the top of the railing. I'm not sure if the railing could support much weight though.

We have a fair amount of decking extending out beyond the front railing. Seems like it would be easy to fabricate something that clips on to that. I think I need to learn how to weld and fabricate this winter. Could be fun!!

How heavy is a kayak?

My first thought is that it should not be too difficult to fab up some alum angle brackets that "hang" on to the topside of your fencing facing outboard with only a bolt or two securing the bottom of the bracket. Some split foam pipe insulation to protect the hull of the kayak and some bungee cords to strap the kayak to the brackets....

You can build quite a lot with rivets, nuts & bolts and not have to invest in the equipment and time needed to learn welding....
