Aftermarket pontoon covers
I am needing to get a aftermarket cover for my pontoon boat to keep the dirt and most the rain out of it. Mostly for the sun protection. I have a 24 foot pontoon boat. I have just been using a tarp but it keep blowing off. Is there a cover that anyone recommends? If so, how does it attach to the boat? How do you keep it from sagging in the middle? Thanks for the help.
Re: Aftermarket pontoon covers
Most pontoon covers are held on the boat by snaps to the fencing. Telescoping poles held in place by plastic vent covers take the slack out, and keep the covers from getting any puddles.
Truthfully, I only use my cover during the winter. They are quite a hassle to install as the snaps are positioned where the cover's tight, and it takes a pretty strong grip to snap'em.
And even then, water can get through the cover into the interior. The best custom covers come from a specialist like a marine upholsterer or from a tent and awning company. My OEM Bennington cover would cost $1,500 to replace.
If I didn't have a large boathouse and was storing my pontoon at home, I'd have it under a carport or one of those metal prefab carports that can have partial sides installed. Anytime I get my boat at home, I'm overwhelmed how large they are--and how tall they sit on the trailer.

Re: Aftermarket pontoon covers
I use the deluxe one from pontoonstuff.com it straps to the trailer. It is a really nice cover.

I use the regular poles with carpet on the tips so they don't poke through. Pontoonstuff has a new support system they are getting ready to go live with. I will try and find out a time frame from Jim.

Re: Aftermarket pontoon covers
Here's what i use.... the first one lasted 3 years.... just put on second one...
for less than $100 (price plus shipping), not a bad deal at all...

i sure wouldn't trailer with it though....

Re: Aftermarket pontoon covers
I am looking for something that attaches to my boat and not the trailer. My boat is in the lake for 8 months out of the year and my main concern is the sun hitting the vinyl seats.
Re: Aftermarket pontoon covers
here's another vote for checking out pontoonstuff.com They have 3 grades of boat covers, kinda like good, better, best..... The one that I looked at actually had elastic and tucked under your deck.... you use some type of pole system to "tent" the cover to keep water and snow from pooling... also, since youre a member here you would get 10 percent off their price by using the code:tucker0104 wrote:I am looking for something that attaches to my boat and not the trailer. forum 10".... just something to think about... I think their covers were around 300 bucks or so for the top of the line... by comparison I looked into having a custom made cover for my 20 foot boat and if memory serves me correctly the quote was around 15 or 16 hundred bucks....

Re: Aftermarket pontoon covers
I really think you are describing a custom cover with snaps around the perimeter. My boat sits at my dock 8 months a year and I cover it after every use except during the weekend. There's no way I would be doing that with a generic cover that I had to tie or attach some way other than snaps.
Check around. Maybe they're not as expensive as you think. A local upholstery woman did my heavy weight sunbrella custom cover for $800. And I didn't have to take the boat to her. She came to my house for measurements, made the cover in her shop, and then she came back and fitted it and added the female part of the snaps to line up with my original snap bases. She did a beautiful job.

Re: Aftermarket pontoon covers
^ ^ ^ Agree. The generic "one size fits many" covers are not for on the water use, and if you ask you should get that answer. There is simply not an easy way to get the cover underneath your deck/rub rail unless you have access to every side of the boat when it's in the water. Even then you have to have some sort of support system to keep the water from pooling.
Just one boat...after another, after another

Re: Aftermarket pontoon covers
I tried on of those online, one size fits most covers. Waste of money in my opinion. I found a lady on craigsslist that came to me a made a custom fit transferable cover for $500.00.
Money well spent.
