Battery cable size?
I'm considering relocating my batteries and the more I read about sizes the more I'm confused. I have a Yamaha 60hp 4 stroke and I am having no luck finding how much current the starter draws. The distance from the battery switch to the motor would be around 17 feet (34 feet round trip). Opinions?
Re: Battery cable size?
A sort of ball park estimate is around is 250 amps for the starter, and for that long of a run at least a 1/0 cable.

Here's the link to a voltage drop calculator that should help.

Re: Battery cable size?
Thanks for the information. Looks like the price to move the batteries isn't worth it. Think I'll order some vinyl flooring instead.
Re: Battery cable size?
Here is the chart I always use. It is nicely explanatory. And it agrees with James at 1/0...ish.
