Replacing deck question

#1 Post by mgarvie » Thu Jan 01, 2015 2:46 pm

Getting shopping list ready to replace my deck, add vinyl flooring, and underskin soon. Should I be thinking about treating the edges, drilled holes, and bottom of the marine plywood? The top will be protected with vinyl but what about the rest? I only want to do this once and want it to last.

Don't paint or seal it, it will hold the moisture in and cause the wood to rot, as far as drilling the holes if your old floor is still on the boat take measurements of where the holes are at so that you can go back and drill in that spot later if you're going to put the furniture in the same place.

You know you can get it all from PontoonStuff by just telling them the size and what material, they will send you every thing needed to do the job and you get 10 percent off

I was planning to get the kit from pontoonstuff.com. I was just concerned if I should treat any exposed wood after applying the vinyl. Hope to have everything sitting here ready to go when the tempatures comes back up in the spring.

No the wood will take care of it's self, the 24 year old wood on mine was still good and was used on other projects when I removed it, I made our sun deck out of it, now it you want to keep the bottom dry you can under skin it

Going to order my underskin soon. Decided to go with 1/8" HDPE panels (Asian Carp Armor).
