Indeed, a beautiful Shepard. I've only had Shepard's for the past 35 years. The one in my avatar was my son's. There's something about dogs, I can't explain it. Somehow they're able to to touch your soul in ways a person can't. They just don't live long enough. Last night I happened across an older Niel Young concert from 2002 (hate his political views, love most of his music) He has a song, "Old King". I'd seen the concert before, but forgot he preformed that song. I couldn't help it. The tears just started running. I'd always associated the song with my son's dog. I'm sure Rocky brought you great joy and now great memories. R.I.P. Rocky

I am sorry for your loss. We lost our GSD , Marley, in July. Wife and I said we were done with dogs as losing her was very hard. A few months later and we have another. Maci is now our new girl but we miss Marley every day. Pic of Marley, the Maci as a pup and now at 14 months. Both loved the boat.

Our 8 year old rottweiler disappeared suddenly. Before Christmas, I looked up and Hank was running around my feet in the front yard. He had been incarcerated 5 months and had lost about 40 lbs.

Now, Hank is fattened up, and he's back to his old self. He's the sweetest dog and best house dog I've ever seen. Put him in the front yard, and he's the boss of the neighborhood.

In the meantime, we replaced Hank with a female rottweiler--Zenia. She's a complete doll, and about 1/2 grown at 45 lbs. But she runs Hank crazy kissing him on the face.

The dognappers never knew Hank had cancer. While Hank's doing well, we know that he's a short term dog. And like us all, our dogs will eventually no longer be with us. Just hope you have time to prepare yourself mentally for losing them.

Mosnowman.... I'm so sorry to hear about Rocky.... he sure was a beautiful dog..... to some people, they're just dogs... but not to most of us... they're part of the family... I feel your pain... lost our little mandy 3 years ago when she was a little over 17 years old..... swore I would never have another one because it just hurt too much after losing Mandy... Wife paid no attention to me and went out about 3 months later and now we have this little white snow ball named Joey.... two very different pups.. but both love to go out on the boat......

Thanks all....it's so obvious how much we all care for our furry family members. Your thoughts and comments are really appreciated. I found this great poem about dogs and thought I would post it...it hits the nail on tne head...

"OUR FAMILY'S BEST FRIEND"
My friend is loyal and eager to please
I'd sit in my chair, his head on my knees
I'd stroke his back and pat him on the side
The things he would do filled my heart with pride
He watched my house and my family too
He was always there to look over you
Never my house did I have to lock
A bark and a growl at the very first knock

Unconditional love is what he gave to me
From the look in his eye it was all you could see
Sometimes I'd yell "be quiet, lay down"
He'd lay in the corner and not make a sound
As he grew old and couldn't get around
I forgot how he'd greet me with a leap and a bound

Soon came the time he could no longer stand on his own
I picked him up and carried him to see God's home
On the way there I remembered all the good years
I looked at my friend through all of my tears

I told him I loved him
Soon the pain would be gone
I did the hardest thing
I ever have done

I went the last mile
I was there to the end
I know now why they called him
"Our Family's Best Friend"

In Loving Memory of ROCKY
Our Protector - Our Friend

Rest in Peace My Friend

I feel for you! We lost my daughters Missy in the worst way last spring. This poem will tear most of us up but in the end it helps.

RIP to all our lost furry friends.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
