Log repair/motor pod update

Graig, pod was $237 shipped from WI to TX

Friz, pretty sure the pod is the same on my Tracker. The old boat has a rear couch so unless you extend the fill neck, fueling would have to be on the trailer. The tracker has an open back with fishing chairs so fueling in the water is no issue.

Thanks man! If you get a chance can you throw a tape on top of the pod so I can get a rough measurement on where I'll mount mine?

Yeah I saw that one. What I had in mind was showing the actual inches to see how my stringers would line up depending on how far I set it back.

Here ya go mate. Six foot from front of mounting tabs to transom. I marked my straight edge ever foot.

M-kay, on with the shoooe...

After cutting off the first mount, welding, grinding, welding some more... followed by more grinding, I welded the first mount back in place.



Looks like I still need practice...

Started on mount number two. I selected on the inside thinking by the time I get to the outside, I may have a handle on this.

After finishing the repairs on the port log and passing the pressure test...

Son in law and nephew came over Saturday and we got the log back under the boat.



A little beer, sweat and a drop or two of blood, we got the wire loom pulled then got starboard log pulled.



Up on the saw horses and ready for repair.



This one had something a little different. Not only were the welds cracked, one of the mounts had broken.



After a days work we were sitting around the shop bullshitting, having a couple cool ones, the boys seemed interested in the welding process do I grabbed some scraps and set them up to try their hand at TIG welding. This was their first time holding a torch and with what little I could offer as an instructor, they went after it. My daughter grabbed this shot of her hubby trying his hand at it.



They both done good for their first time and I think they may have enough interest learn the craft.

Thanks! Boat got lots of use when the kids were growing up. If we weren't at gymnastic meets, we were at the lake abusing the ole girl.

Finished the second log so nephew came over Saturday and we got it back under the boat. Before we (reading I ) got tuckered out, we managed to pull the dash, figured out the crappy wiring job the OEM done, marked everything and pulled some new wire. We called it a day and I decided to go motorcycle riding Sunday so Jason could go work in the T-ball field.

Got back from riding and was messing around in the shop and got to looking at the filler neck in the new pod.



Thinking it was too close to the waterline so decided it needed some attention. Pulled it and started whittling on it.







Went over to the Smithy and cleaned off the old weld on the neck.



Made a 45 out of some 1.5" 6061 I had laying around.



Clamped and welded the bits together.



Pressure tested and remounted to the tank... Mucho bueno!

Damn man you have skills!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The admiral got a bug and we are now redoing our master bath.... transom on hold...

Sometime before summer I will have it done.!
