Nu-beee! buying my first Pontoon!

#1 Post by farmer_dre » Wed Mar 11, 2015 5:39 pm

Hi all!!

Looking for some opinions!
Im in the market for a pontoon. (its time to sell the ol Chaparral) SO im interested in a 3 different boats. i am looking for opinions on each i guess and what you suggest. im open to all kids of info!

1st boat!
23' Aurura RF SHP Manitou. IM going to power it with a 175hp Suzuki or Evinrude. i havn't decided

2nd boat
8520 Lounger DH sunchaser. Its local and at the dealer. has the PTS tube under it with a 150 Evinrude

3rd boat
SweetWater 220SL with 27'' tube tritoon tube package and a 150 Yamaha

I know each boats have there pros and cons.

What Im looking for is a Fairly sporty boat to handle the kids tubing and skiing. . still injoy some relaxing on the water aswell.

all 3 of these boats are with in $3g of each other. im looking for your opinions :) help a fella out from Nova Scotia!

Welcome!

All three seem good, personal preference will win out, the 175 should provide all the HP you may need but will use more gas. Hard to say which is better, but it looks like if they are sound you can't go wrong.

For handling and performance that Manitou SHP with an Evinrude 175 would be very hard to beat. Stepping up to one of the new Evinrude G2's (200 HO) would be a killer setup.

I think all are fantastic. I would agree with previous posters... get the horse power now . Third tube is also a must have. I bought my first toon in 2012 and went back and bought the one I should have bought in 2014.
Check out Lowe pontoons too. They have great values ...

Thanks!

Does anyone have any expierence with the sun chaser pts tubes ? It's only 3/4 length. How much performance do you think I would give up with that?

The manitou makes sense for What I want . It's just 1800miles away ;)

Hahah yeah from Nova Scotia!

Manitou is in Maine.

sunchaser is about 2 hours north of me. IT has more options then the other 2 boats (full enclosure)

Sweetwater is on our south shore. about an hour away.

The Sweetwater is the highest priced boat.
but thats not overly concerning me as its only $2500

for performance, i'd vote for the manitou. if you are just dragging a tube in a straight line or pulling the occasional skier on combo skis the motor should be fine. however, if your sporting tastes are more extreme, you may want to look into more hp.

Our season here depends on where you want to go.. where my camp is, is pretty much last weekend in June to 1st weekend in Sept. After that you have a month on salt water down on the south shore. after that its touch and go for another week or 2 .. so if your lucky 14ish weekends.

The one thing you can count on around this forum is an over abundance of opinions and no two are the same. In the end , it's YOUR BOAT AND YOUR MONEY!!!!. Buy what feels right to you. None of the rest of us are putting any money in nor are we going to be riding on it. Therefore what anyone else thinks doesn't mean shit. They are all fine boats. Buy the one that feels right to you and the one that speaks to you the most.
Whatever you buy, enjoy the hell out of it up there in the great North country!!!!!!

Congratulations! I didn't chime in earlier because I don't know enough about the other 2 boats, but I would have bought the Manitou as well. I bet you will love that SHP. Everyone here will be wanting to see pictures soon
