Towable for kids
Would something like this work well enough behind an 18 pontoon with a 60 HP motor?
SPORTSSTUFF 53-1385 Slalom Jockey Towable Action Tube
Our grandkids are coming soon and I'd like to keep them entertained with some sort of towable but I've got no clue as to what to get. The boy 9 is beefy at 80 odd pounds and the girl 7 is much smaller yet both can ride wake boards and motorcycles etc. I know I can't pull a wake board so I'm looking toward some sort of tube action and thought something that was steerable would be more fun for them. Or should I just look toward something more simple as in a round tube etc?

For the age and size of your grand kids, I think they'll have a lot of fun on that. For teens and adults, you'll need more power obviously. Get the right size ski vests, or borrow some, kids grow out of them like shoes. have fun!

We got our toon last year and bought a big mable for the grandkids and they love it. One reason we bought it is you just about can't flip it. They had smiles all the trips we took so I'm happy.

Re: Towable for kids
There are tons of choices in inflatable towables. It all depends on the age and number of riders, how exciting you want the ride to be and how much you want to spend. Friends with teenagers recommended the O'Brien Screamer 2 person (Overton's Gladiator looks to be the same tube). Our 9 yr old grandaughter loves it, especially when riding double. Very easy to ride and lots of fun. It can pick up a lot of speed when you sling it to the side in a fast turn and you can throw off the rider if you want (which kids love). My 62 yr old best friend had a ball on it last season and, yes, I did sling him off on purpose. They seem to be the most fun at 20-22mph. Check out the tubing videos on YouTube.
You might also want to check out a kneeboard, such as the O'Brien Black Magic which is great for beginners. Again, there are tons of choices. Since most of our toons aren't ideal for wakeboarders, the old reliable kneeboard can still be lots of fun and even exciting for an experienced rider. See YouTube videos.
These toys are huge and can take up a lot of room in your toon. A 2 person round tube is almost 6' in diameter.

Re: Towable for kids
Kinda leaning toward this one if for no other reason than a little lower in cost yet is still a steerable toy. Seems this would give the kids that chance to make it their own ride instead of just being towed around waiting for me to make some turns for them. Either that or I'm just going to get one of the D shaped towables that have the wedge shaped bow to stern. Either way I worry as with 4 adults while the boat still planes (sorta) it sure drops a lot of speed down to 15 mph perhaps....

That looks like a lot of fun, especially if they can steer it. The friend who recommended the Super Screamer advised me to get one where they ride on an inflated area. If the only thing between the rider and the H20 is the nylon cover, its much rougher on the rider I was told. Overtons' 2 person Gladiator appears identical to the Super Screamer.
The family will enjoy anything you pull behind the boat! When we were kids, we often rode on a large round piece of plywood. We would stand up on it and steer by leaning and shifting our weight. We had a ball.

Re: Towable for kids
I have the 2 person Slalom Jockey and it's one of kids (and adults) favorites and works very well in the 15-20mph range. Most riders can get it outside the wake while I drive in a straight line. Its also pretty easy to ditch them off it too if can catch them of guard and turn the toon the opposite way the turned the tube

Man that really brings back some fond brown water memories there... My Dad used to me around on one of those....TDJ2591 wrote:The family will enjoy anything you pull behind the boat!
