Ok I need some help finding vinyl flooring

#1 Post by HandymanHerb » Tue Mar 24, 2015 11:59 am

The guy who makes it for PS thinks we can clean it, like we haven't tried every thing on it and only lighten it up, so won't be going back with that material, you can't clean it at all, we couldn't even clean up dirt from foot traffic, never mind the rust stains my brother put on it by throwing the ladder he was using in between the many rains we were getting every day, and driving it to the shop.

Oh well time to strip her down and do it over, wish I could have gotten more than two years out of it, that what I get for trying the new stuff, looked like a dam good ideal.

Have you tried Clorox Cleanup? If you apply it pretty stout and scrub it down with a good stiff deck brush and soak a bit before rinsing it may not come out perfect, but perhaps presently acceptable.

We tried a few things and lighten it up a little, I was hoping maybe we could paint it, but I wouldn't think that would work on a floor, James at PS said he willing to replace it, no matter where I get it from, but I told him he has done plenty for me, but I would had made his vinyl guy replace it, if I wanted to go through this again.

I don't want to go to carpet, but all the vinyl I'm finding looks about the same as this, just in more colors, so it looks like we will be going carpet, I'll just order the best one I can buy so it will last and be stain free

Now you got me worried. Just got mine last week and it's still wrapped up in a tube in the garage. Looks great from the little corner I peeled back but it's in for a hard life. Now I wonder what Illinois River mud, asian carp, and two Great Danes are going to do to it? Is there anything you might have done different that I should keep in mind?

I am on the PS forum as well as here. There are a lot of people with PS vinyl. I think this may be random issue. I know Ryan used his toon a lot on the gulf with their vinyl, Salt fish guts etc. Rust stains are a bitch to get out of anything. What exactly has Jim said?

I was hoping they got better with it and I got the new stuff, because we had to work on it in sox or you would leave foot prints, but then I thought, it's still new, so I hope I got the bad batch.

I wish the vinyl guy had a better answer

James:
Below are some cleaning tips. My thought is to get you some snap in carpet to cover the vinyl. This should be less work for you and still have the boat look good. Let me know your thoughts and I can get working on getting you set.

Vinyl guy:
"He should saturate the vinyl with warm, soapy dish water. Let it sit there for a little bit to get down into the valleys of the embossing.
Then use a soft deck brush on it. If he'd like to use some mild, citrus-based cleaner as well (like Orange-Glo), that would be fine.
Once the vinyl has been cleaned good using this process....it's a lot easier just to hose down to clean."

He didn't say yea we had a problem but the new stuff is better, he didn't even offer to replace it, so I hope I didn't refer other people into this to quick

I think you at least need to try cleaning it the way I told you in the pontoonstuff thread (where you originally brought this up).

You see that light place in the floor in front of my left foot, it did lighten up a little, but Zep isn't that strong, but I do have some strong mildew killer, but we are willing to try anything before we have to strip it all down again, but my 22 year old carpet cleaned easy with the pressure washer, can't believe we are having so much trouble with this even before the rust stains, I just don't want to go back to carpet being wet for days after use, in Florida that could be weeks at times when the rains come many times a day, every day.

We haven't tried pulling out my big boy 14 HP 4 GPM 4000 PSI pressure washer, my rotary tip takes it to about 4500 PSI, I just need to stay at four inches or above the floor so it doesn't dig in, but we will try that too.

Have you tried using CLR? It is a powerful cleaner made specifically for calcium, and rust stains. It may be too strong for vinyl but since you are considering replacing it anyway it may worth a shot.

how about taking an entirely different approach....

since it looks like the vinyl isn't damaged, just stained....... figure out exactly how the stain was created..... then, apply THAT to all the vinyl... *POOF* problem solved.
