Stereos

#1 Post by farmer_dre » Sun Mar 29, 2015 10:04 am

HI all!

Ive always had fairly large stereos in my Trucks, but never on my boat.

Im going to take the step and put one in this boat.

Whats your experience with subwoofers??? Pontoon boats are very open. Im going Marine speakers. I just didnt know about placement of a subwooder and what would be the best box for the Woofer to be in to give me sound? (ported or sealed box)

Subwoofers are a product of The Devil. A kid used to come into my neighborhood with one, and we could feel the barometric pressure pulsating 2 minutes before he came by. He's going to be deaf shortly.

And they're even worse on the water. We can hear a fisherman talking in a normal voice from 200 yards away, as sounds carry so well.

But I recognize that a regular power booster and high quality speakers are required on a pontoon boat. And they also take a second battery if you sit long without running the motor. Just don't spend a fortune on a sound system if your boat is not going to be locked up in a secure location--inside. Expensive sound systems have a tendency to be stolen.

Almost all of the new higher-end toons have a subwoofer. Most are mounted in the ends of the seat bases or in the side of the console and apppear to be free-air mounted, not in boxes.

If you are looking at sub-woofers (and not the kind that will kill fish and tick off your neighbors), check these out:

I had the 8" on my last boat and stuck it under the helm. Nice deep/rich bass without the boom blast.
