MSRP for pontoon newbie

#1 Post by ducati1212 » Mon Mar 30, 2015 5:58 pm

Looking around for info on the boat I just bought I notice huge price swings. I have seen the model listed anywhere from 16,000 to 33,000 for same model and ballpark options. This was an Avalon pontoon. How far from MSRP do these things swing. I bought under MSRP but not much and was fairly happy with the deal.

If you're wanting to price Avalons or Tahoes, look at TandMMarine.com--the largest pontoon dealer I've ever seen. They're located way off the beaten path--north of Minneapolis.

Marine dealerships don't all have the same price structure--like an automobile dealership would have. There are volume discounts, cash discounts, boat show discounts and incentives offered at new model introduction meetings. The marine selling season is really February to the end of July. Manufacturers might throw out price incentives to get dealers to fillup production slots in the slow months--to avoid laying off production workers.

So buying boats is not cut and dry. Some dealers are stronger than others, and they can often get a better deal from their suppliers.

those prices are very low based on what I have seen. Maybe I won't try to figure it out and just be happy I have the boat

I agree.. if you've already bought the boat, what difference will it make.. but it's human nature, we all want to make sure we got the best deal possible...
