I just purchased a pontoon boat and it came with a Mid America trailer. I looked at the Mid America trailers on the dealer's lot and the majority of them had lots of rust on the tongue and frame. I do not know how long they were sitting there but let me tell you, I am not happy with the thought that mine could follow suit. I returned the trailer my boat originally came with for a newer one because there was rust probably from pieces being moved about. The original one was manufactured in November and already had rust on it by the end of March.
Yesterday I had my husband wax our trailer so that rust would not be an issue in the future.

I've been following your post with interest and sympathize with your experience. Everything I can find says the mid america is a great pontoon trailer. My cuddy has a tennesee trailer and after almost 10-years of boating it doesnt have any rust on it except maybe a few pinhole size ones from rocks. I do apply wax to the trailer just like the boat so maybe that helped but if it had rust from day one I would have been concerned as well. I would have never guessed that finding a good trailer would be that difficult and like you with such a huge investment i dont want to be replacing or repaininting a trailer in 2-3 years......should not be that way imo. I'm leaning towards the Heritage line because it appears to have agreat fit and finish but so does the mid american. decisions......

Re: South Bay Pricing
I wish I had taken a camera with me the last time I was at the dealer so I could show you what I saw. It seems that the dealership does not seem concerned. Maybe it is the way the trailers are stacked. Maybe I am too picky. I am not ashamed about it because I plan on owning this boat a very long time.
I was told that every boat on their lot will be sold by July. I wonder how other owners will react to rusty trailers?

50K+ for a boat? I had to take this number and truly remember why I boat and the conclusion was 'I am out'. Pontoon prices are out of line with my reality. Began searching for an aluminum boat this winter and picked this 18' up this last weekend. I will wait for prices to get inline after the bubble burst for my toon. I will always believe that toons are a great boating platform and enjoyed my Premiere, but practicability wins when the season is so short in Michigan.
