Anchor Rope

Just wanting to get some input on good anchor rope for my 22' tritoon (braided or twisted nylon). I have done some searching and believe I will order the large slide box anchor to use as an anchor (hope this is a good choice).

Trying to get the last few items needed, checked off the list!

I prefer to use solid core braided nylon for mooring and anchoring as it takes knots very well and does not get all azzholed up like twisted line can do sometimes after being put under heavy load...

BTW get least 3/8" by 100-foot....

I just bought alot of line from overtons. they had better prices than bass pro or wally world and a good selection of most accessories.

I got a really good price on double braided anchor line from boatersoutlet.com. I don't care for the twisted rope though it is usually much cheaper than braided.

One thing to add here, since I didn't see it mentioned yet.
Connect your anchor to about 10 feet of chain first, then at least a 100 feet of rope. The chain will help keep the anchor down where you set it. This may not be as important with a box style anchor as it is with a richert, river, mushroom, or any other style, but I'd still use the chain anyway.

If you go with the box anchor you do not need a chain. I have a 22' boat and the medium box anchor will hold two boats if you need to, have tried it a couple of times. Also the length of rope is much less then any other anchor.

Seems that Overtons and Gander Mountain are intertwined with each other and I would not be surprised if they are all one in the same as they just seem to sell the exact same stuff. But with that being said I'm pleased with ordering from Overtons thus far..... I also find and order a lot of my stuff through www.mcmaster.com such as rope and shackles as well as cleats and general hardware....

Thank you for all the input; ended up purchasing the large box anchor (purchased from overtons using price matching, plus 10.00 off coupon and free shipping). Got the double braided rope from boatersoutlet.com; should be set in the anchor department now.

I have a 25 foot tritoon and the small box anchor holds it! I also use an anchor buddy line (with a float on top in case it ever pops off) ..,.works great! When we cove out I get to slowly sway with the wind.

The chain previously mentioned serves several other purposes beyond reducing the bite angle of your rode.
It also is a 'shock absorber' of sorts. If it is heavy enough, it lies on the bottom until some clown in a go-fast zings by and sends a wake your way. Then the chain has to be 'lifted' off the bottom before your rope even comes into play. Good in waves as well.
A third advantage is to keep your line from even touching bottom most of the time, reducing abrasion and chaffing.
It can be hand braided onto your anchor line if need be. Good stuff
