Has anybody junked or recycled a pontoon boat?

#1 Post by Bamaman » Sat May 02, 2015 9:44 am

I have a 1985 Starcraft 24' boat with the hard top. It has the U Tubes. It's been hard to sell since the lower unit was blown and there's no trailer. My neighbors are getting tired of looking at it in the yard.

I was just wondering if anyone has scrapped a pontoon boat to recycle the aluminum? I wonder how much the aluminum would pull at a good recycler?

I had what was left of a party hut I was seriously thinking of scrapping out but it was really galling me to destroy something that would still be extremely useful to someone else. So what I did was estimated it weight, called a couple scrap dealers for there price per pound. I then did the math and established a price for my boat/dock. Yep around here a lot of folks make boat-docks out of older boats like mine or even yours. In my case I came out ahead I put it on Craigs list for a grand about this time of year giving myself some room to move and had so much response I easily sold it for asking to the first person who showed.

PS if you were closer and the price were right I'm in a different position where I could use another boat dock myself.

I see them all the time here in TN as all docks must float here due to the lake levels being regulated so many an old toon spends its final days providing stationary enjoyment...

I agree, would make a perfect boat dock. I'd buy it from you if I was closer, I have a project in mind for retirement.

I had to chuckle a bit because I actually purchased one that was being used as a dock, and built it back to a turn-key toon :lol3

I sold my old one for a grand without the motor. Guy wanted it for a duck blind.
