My Lake

#1 Post by C_M_25 » Wed May 13, 2015 6:40 pm

Well, oklahoma city has received about 10-20 inches of rain over the past two weeks. Lake Hefner, our water source, was 17 feet below normal, and you would have to walk a couple of hundred yards across the flats to get to the water. It is now full! In two weeks!! You can see the impact to lake arcadia (where I boat). The crazy thing is the rivers are still dumping water into it, and we are supposed to get more rain! There is no way I'm putting my boat in that. Say goodbye to spring fishing season!

I will say that I'm really happy with all the rain though. It will be a good summer/fall this year.

Kansas hasn't seen nearly that much water but our lakes weren't as bad either it seemed. Hopefully it calms down soon so things can normalize!

Lakerunner - are you guys going to get your boat out on that mess? I just can't get past all the debris floating around in my lake...especially with the super red water.

We can't get to our dock on Eufaula -- and my boat is stranded on the lift.

looks like my lake (reservoir) here in the Denver area. It was already full with spring run off from the mountains and last week the region got upwards of 8 inches of rain in some areas and also a good bit of snow. the lake is now a good 9 feet above full. 2/3s of the ramps are close, bathrooms and other facilities are under water, etc. They can't let water out any faster due to areas downstream already being flooded.

I'll try to get some pics posted later tonight that I took yesterday when I went to check on my toon. Oh yeah, and the water was still rising a foot plus a day yesterday. Levels haven't been this high in 20 years - so I'm told.

Haven't heard any reports but I'm hoping lake Travis in Austin actually has water in it now!

Where does the water go to in Oklahoma? Down the Arkansas to the Mississippi? Maybe some down the Red?

Oklahoma city lakes feed the Canadian and deep form rivers which dump into eufaula and eventually merge with the Arkansas.

Do you guys ever boat in high water like this? I really want to get out, but it doesn't seem worth it with the potential of catching a log in the prop.

Our lake has come up even higher. Usually, it is about a 20 yard drive down to the water on the ramp, and it is now up to the road. We have narrow ramps that are at a bit of an angle, and usually it is not a problem to get lined up. Well, that is not the case now. I saw a guy launching a toon drive off the ramp, and somehow he jackknifed his trailer. He had to be towed out. Not good...
