Hi guys well the time has come and i found a new tooner i would love to own. Just have never heard of the brand and dont have any idea how the i/o's toons are. The vessel is a 2005 godfrey. Sanpan. 25 foot long loaded with all the goodies. It has a 4.3 merc rated at 220hp with lifting strakes and under skinned. It has around 415 hours on it. What are the major things to look for as far as the i/o. They want 21,000$ for it with a fual axle trailer is that a decent price ?? Thanks for the help guys.

Pictures would help.

Condition has a lot to do with value of a used boat.

I'm pretty sure the Experienced Veterans here will be able to give you some good help.

You can start here for estimated boat values: http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats

Sanpans are Godfrey's top of the line boat. They are really nice, fully loaded toons. Godfrey also makes Sweetwater and Aqua Patio.

The 4.3 Mercruiser is one of my favorite inboard outboard combos. They're strong running yet very economical to run. You'll want to have a qualified Mercruiser mechanic go over the engine and the outdrive in detail.

The engine should be checked on an engine analyzer and the compression tested when warmed.

The lower unit should be pressure and vacuum tested, and then lower unit grease changed. You don't want the buyer first changing the fluids there as a mechanic needs to see the grease looking for water contamination and metal shavings.

The owner should document when the water pump impeller was last changed. If he cannot provide this info, the impeller needs changing immediately.

The rubber bellows over the drive shafts, exhaust and gear shift cables need to be carefully inspected. Over time, rubber deteriorates, and these are a big source of problems. (I once had a bad bellows leaking in my boat--and it sank.)

I/O's are good the first few years, but they can be a pain in the rear maintenance wise when the bellows start rotting.

You might have a fine boat there. I don't know about the price, however. You might want to go onto BoatTraders.com and see if you can find a comparable boat. I/O's on pontoon/tritoons are relatively hard to find on the retail market.

The boat is at a dealer and me being a mechanic am not affraid of a little work down the road. The bellows look like new all the cylinders have 180 psi. The boat does have some cosmetic problems but the dealer is going to address most of them. We are takeing it for a test drive in 2 weeks as the dealer has 60 boats ahead of us.
