I wonder why your dealer put an aftermarket prop on your boat? Cost?

My dealer originally put a Yamaha M14 (black color) stainless prop on my boat. I was at 36 mph and hitting the rev limiter at 6300 rpm's. I immediately returned the prop, and the dealer ordered in a new Reliance 15 pitch prop.

My Reliance is on a Bennington 24 SSLX (F150) with the Express Tube (3/4th length), and I'm seeing 40-41 mph @ 6000-6100 rpm's--lightly loaded. I've noted that other owners with the full length hulls are seeing the exact same speeds. That's a very low percentage of slip.

As far as I can tell, the Reliance is on par with the Mercury Enertia prop--the gold standard for pontoons.

Tell the dealer you're dissatisfied with your performance, and that you'd like to try out another propeller or two.

So we have boats that are roughly the same size, you have 50 less hp and you're seeing 5 mph more on the top end. I clearly do not have the right prop. I am going to give the prop manuf one chance to send me 'the right one' then I'm going to switch to a Yamaha. Do you happen to know your exact prop model type and overalls? The Reliance seems to be popular. Also see Yamaha has a prop specifically for pontoons.

Here is the response from the manuf:

"
Your numbers are good, actually. . Your theoretical speed should be between 37.7 mph and your actual is 36mph which means you are running 95 % efficient (less than 4% slip). Can you borrow your friends Reliance prop? If so, put it on your boat and record the performance. This way we can compare the results. Our PTZ prop is competitive to the Reliance.

There are many factors that can effect speed. The only way to increase rpms is to drop pitch, blade styles, and sometimes the prop itself. RPMs, prop geometer, wetted surface, weight, and motor height are the factors that have a direct impact on speed. Your in-line F200 specifications: 6000 rpms with a gear ratio of 1:86. . .
"

I looked at the their PTZ line. They are 14.25 dia vs the Reliance 14.5 dia. I don’t think diameter is as big a factor as pitch. (finally got confirmation the prop on my boat is 13 deg pitch). I think I’m going to try to just get my dealer to get me the Yamaha Reliance 14.5 x 15 prop. It seems to be what a lot of people are running and are happy with.

Just picked up a Reliance 14.5 x 15P prop. Got the dealer to make the trade for what he propped the boat with. Will install and test it out this weekend. Can't wait to see what kind of difference it makes!

My dealer started out with a M14 Yamaha prop on my boat. I was 36 mph and hitting the rev limiter @ 6300 rpm's. I immediately asked for a Reliance 15 pitch, and my boat now performs exactly as expected--40 mph @ 6000 rpm's.

Your boat is getting neither the rpm's or the speed you're looking for. That tells me the brand, model and pitch of your prop may not be what a tritoon needs.

I'd suggest hitting up the dealer to reprop your boat with a Reliance 15 pitch for comparison purposes.

Many years ago, we were into some pretty high performance boats. The dealer went to the lake with us with 3-4 propellers. He was determined that our boats were going to be prop'd correctly for top performance the way we used the boat. His reputation was on the line.

For what its worth my heavy Crest only does 46 with a 300 Verado. :donno I ran a 16 pitch at 5800 rpm @46 , switched to a 15 pitch and ran 6200 rpm @ 45 . I will be installing a Bobs machine shop hydraulic jackplate to get me back a bit and be able to raise the motor . My goal is to run a 17 at 6k or above and hopefully break into the 50's .

Ron, I'm getting ready to pull the in on mine too. We need to get together on pricing them out. I've decided on the 6" Extreme Series, 1" spacers, turn signal style switch and chrome gauge. Pricing them out, right now!

Exact same one I am looking at. I was thinking red powder coat too but that was an extra 300 if I remember correctly. Maybe we can get a twofer discount :thumbsup. Called Simon and they don't have mapping for the 2014 300 yet. But 800 for 15 HP is not going to get me much . I would of swapped to the 400R but my badge is only rated for 300

I was thinking the same thing on the two-fer! Ya, you would never notice the extra 15 from Eric. I'ld put the $800 towards beer and gas! I was pondering the thought of the 400R, but I have to wait. I got a deal brewing to work with another manufacturer on a custom dual windshield model. If I do it and like the outcome, the Premier will be up for sale. I don't want to stick gobs of $ into it.
