WET SLIP VS SPEED

I keep my Tritoon in a wet slip - Take it out a few times a year and clean them. I have noticed that growth/algae etc. sticks to the toons and seems to cut my speed down a lot versus when they are clean. Curious if other people are have the same problem - if so how much is your speed (mph) affected??

Back in the days of sailing ships, barnacles and growths would slow ships down.

I'd bet it's the same issue with any other boat and any growth that adds drag.

It makes a big difference. Top speed clean was 35 and after 6 weeks in the water barely hits 30.

definitely makes a difference. i lost several mph after a season of keeping my PTX in the water. it was a real pain to clean them off. I bought a lift so its not a problem anymore.

It didn't seem to effect mine last year - I kept her in from early May to the end of September.

One of the people here put bottom paint on their toons and have almost zero growth.

He told me:

I used Interlux for aluminum boats. tape off the bottom about 2 inches above the water line. sand from there down apply 1 coat of epoxy paint and then the interlux I have a 3 log boat and I only got 2 coats if you have a 2 logger you will get 3 just use it all ( make sure you use paint rollers that the epoxy paint wont eat) you will only do the epoxy the first time unless you drag her bottom across a rock it will never come off when the anti fowling coat wheres down, 3 to 4 years you just roll a coat on. for me the best clean up is to let what little is on the bottom when you pull it out dry and then just brush it off.

After a few summer months in the lake last year, about 5-8 mph. This year I vow to pull my boat every 4-6 weeks, bring it home and pressure wash it down.

I would rather pick her up on the trailer or a lift than clean pontoon logs. I may leave my boat in the water for a weekend but no longer. scrubbing hulls and pressure washing under a pontoon is not Pleasureable! Period! Plain and Pimple!
