Enough rain already!!!!

#1 Post by Soonertoon » Thu May 28, 2015 7:14 am

As many of you know, we have had tons of rain here in Eastern Oklahoma. Ft Gibson Lake where we have our boat is up24 ft. This picture is from the marina parking lot...26 ft above normal lake level. It pretty much says it all.

SO fricken tired of the rain. Our local lake, Lake Grapevine is 20.5 ft over. All the boat ramps are now closed

We decided to run out to our normal boat ramp just to check it out. In the pic I circled the top of the collection booth where you put your money. It looks to be about 6-7 feet under water and about 200 ft from the flooded edge of the lake. The boat ramp STARTS about 100 ft further out from the collection booth. The ramp was really long too. At least 75 ft and a good 10-12 ft or more of elevation drop. All these numbers are from about 1 month ago.

If hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I wouldn’t believe it. Oh, this pic was from the weekend when the lake was -only- 18 ft over. 2.5 ft higher now..

I read that Eurfaula is already resending july 4th reservations because of this junk. Lake Arcadia has all boat ramps closed as well, and they are expecting 4 to 5 MORE INCHES OF RAIN!!! AHHH!!!

BTW, how is Fort Gibson?? I've never been there. Clear water? Scenery? How is the fishing??

You can say that again. Got a Brand new fishn barge 10 days ago and have yet to launch it. Last night we got 4" in 2 hours, streets were nothing but rivers.

We like Ft. Gibson as its 30 min from front door to the slip. Great fishing lake. Really good. Fed from Grand Lake/ Neosho river so the water is typical lake water, nothing like Tenkiller for sure. Not a big party lake as there is very little development on the lake itself. 1 large marina and 3 other small ones that are pretty weak, and not but a handful of bigger boats to plow up 5 ft troughs which is great. It's a pontoon heavy lake by 4 to 1.
It's cleaner water than Keystone, not a zoo like Grand and cheaper and closer to Tulsa than Tenkiller. We love it.

Lake Tenkiller is currently around 24.5 feet above normal. Rec.gov called and cancelled my camping reservations for the end of June, I guess it is just as well, my favorite camping spot is probably a good ten feet underwater or more. Plus my yard is so wet , I don't think I can get my pontoon out of the shed without leaving some massive ruts, so I guess I will just put boating season on hold
for a month or so. This year has been something else, so far. Heck, I just want to go boating.

As of this afternoon, there is no more boat traffic under the Hwy 51 bridge on Gibson for obvious reasons..unbelievable!!!

Since we can't get out on Eufaula on the toon yet, I bought a little pedal boat to get out to the dock. It says it's a 5-person boat -- they must be talking about kids cuz 3 grown men about sank it. That's my walkway in the background.

We didn't have much of a crappie spawn this year on Eufaula due to all of the Spring rains. And I don't do much fishing in the summer -- that's when we are enjoying booze cruises on the toon. Hopefully next year's spawn will be better.

So far we've spent about $2100 on the dock due to the high water this year. Hopefully this will take care of for this year and years to come -- I'm sure we'll have another year of heavy rain like we've had this year.

So this is a picture of the "cliff" known as "The Point"...at Pomne de Terre Lake. It is generally over 20 feet jump! I was almost as tall standing in my toon this weekend...incredible! Dam is flowing full bore and can't keep up!
