Transom mount trolling motor on the bow??

#1 Post by shooter » Thu May 28, 2015 6:58 pm

18' Suntracker. Transom mounts are much cheaper. What do y'all think? I can probably configure a way to mount it on the deck where the front door is and spin the head 180 degrees. Has anyone successfully done this?

Cool! How long is the shaft? I'm thinking 50 lbs thrust will do it. Do you keep it mounted or remove it often? Thanks!

I'd get at least a 50lb thrust if you intend to use it for trolling, rather than just small movements. You'll probably want a 54-60" shaft or so.

The bow mounted would be a little less awkward and 'jerry rigged' looking but if you can snag a cheap transom mounted I'm sure it can be made to work.

Yeah, I'm weighing my options. I just think it's absurd how much more expensive the bow mounts are.

They're most likely more expensive for a reason. IE, they cost more to manufacturer. I know I have a rediculously expensive trolling motor (Terrova 80lb w/ Ipilot Link) but it does exactly what I want, works well, lots of power, and has a ton of features. YMMV, however.

Havnt took it off since I got it , IIRC its a 60" that I paid 299 for on amazon with the pontoon mount . It works great but I wouldnt want it to be any smaller , with wind and current against it struggles to keep up . Im running it off of 2 group 27 batts

I have the same Trolling motor, sadly Mine is off my bass boat I traded for the toon. Only had it installed for 1 month on my trade in and loved the remote feature!

Wished there was a way to lengthen the shaft, so I can use it on my toon.
