Steering pulls to the right
When my boat is at idle or lower speed the steering stays pretty straight, but as I increase speed it pulls more and more to the right and constant pressure is needed on the wheel to keep it straight. Would this be the trim tab on the Evinrude 60 HP TLENE engine or something in the steering linkage, or both?
Thanks!
Chris
Thanks!

Torque and Prop Rotation.
The same thing happens with any drive unit.

Yep, agreed 100%NonHyphenAmerican wrote:Torque and Prop Rotation.

You can try adjusting the torque tab, usually will help at no wake RPM's. But may be worse at cruise speeds. Its a game of give and take. That's another reason I run a Left Handed prop. Its helps reduce torque steer by countering the engines crankshaft rotation. I don't get that starboard dip on acceleration at all. I've been running LH props for years after learning this trick.

Trim can also affect the steering. If mine is trimmed all the way down it will pull. If I trim it up some it will quit pulling and steer easier.

Thanks, folks! This brings me to my next issue, for which i may have to start a new thread, but the tilt trim motor runs but doesn't cause the pump to run up or down. There are no leaks around any of the cylinder shafts and I have serviced the fluid. If I run it and help the engine up it works a little. Could the motor run but not supply the needed pressure to the cylinders?jrolin1 wrote:Trim can also affect the steering. If mine is trimmed all the way down it will pull. Wouldn't this require you to have a left hand lower unit?Bryden24shp wrote:NonHyphenAmerican wrote:... I've been running LH props for years after learning this trick.

if you have enough fluid in the pump my guess is that the hydro rams in the tilt trim are leaking by. most motors have three, one for tilt and two for trim. are none of them working well. Also there is a manual bleed screw on there somewhere, that may not be tight and the fluid is being released there. Mine is on the port side just above the water line. it allows you to lower or raise the motor should you lose the trim motor.Coral-Reefer wrote:Thanks, folks! On the Verado, HD gear case, yes. It is direction specific, because of the water pump. I lucked out that this one was a left hand gear case. On Evinrudes and Mercs Alpha and Bravo 1's, no... All you do is remove the shifter and swap the shift cable from the bottom hole to the top, or visa versa.

Yeah, but would that require a RH prop in the southern hemisphere?

Re: Steering pulls to the right
I don't see any fluid leaking out of the tilt or the two trim cylinders. I guess they could be leaky between the two sides of the piston inside; but all three? The manual bleed screw is tight. The motor runs but but won't move either of the trim or the tilt cylinder.RcgTexas wrote:if you have enough fluid in the pump my guess is that the hydro rams in the tilt trim are leaking by. most motors have three, one for tilt and two for trim. are none of them working well.
