Expensive Weekend and it's only Saturday morning!
So I love box anchors! Unfortunately it wouldn't release from the bottom yesterday afternoon. I now have donated 2 Box Anchors and 2 Anchor Buddy Lines on the bottom of Lake Pomme de Terre! To add insult to injury my dish blew over and broke the LNB..
My solution..drink more Vodka this afternoon coved out with my cheap reserve anchor. When life hands you lemons...make lemonade! ( and add Vodka)..

I know the feeling - cell phone around my neck on Lanyard. While tying off, raised up caught on something and lanyard strap broke. Phone landed on top of floating bumper. As I prepared to reach for it watched as it slipped off into Davy Jones. Goodbye LG G2. $$$
Purchased another phone (and heavy duty neck Lanyard ).

Use a rope parallel with your anchor buddy. Just leave the rope long enough for the anchor buddy to stretch out.Mosnowman wrote:So I love box anchors! Then retrieve your anchor with the rope. I did this to stop losing anchors.

Remember too strong a lanyard can be deadly, when I use one for my phone I try to use one that can break.

UPDATE!!!
So I went back to the same cove today...Saturday. I watched a Water Patrol drive in and stop at a couple tied up toons. He then drove over to my toon and stated the people over there said you are often in this cove. Then he said do you know a Mr. (Blank)...I replied thats me! He said did you lose something? I said please tell me you found my box anchor? He had it and gave it to me! I had left the floating fender on it with anchor buddy attached hoping to try and retrieve it today if no one stole the fender. I thought they had when we got here today. Bottom line is this...even though my bro in law made fun of me for writing my name and number on the anchor it paid off today! Things are looking up!!!!

I didn't think I was going to get mine up today without a lot of help. Had to let the rope out and have the Admiral move the rear of the boat around and pull from the side the side. It finally broke free. Whew! That is one heavy anchor to pull up, especially when you have a lot of rope out but boy does the box anchor work well. Wind can blow the boat completely around and the box anchor doesn't lose its set.

I empty my pockets anytime I'm putting my pontoon in the water. It's so easy to slip while standing on the trailer frame--climbing the ladder into my boat.
The penalty for a simple slip would be: one $600 cell phone, a Lexus electronic key fob and a $6,800 insulin pump.
I put this stuff in my boat prior to getting near the water.

Re: Expensive Weekend and it's only Saturday morning!
Glad to hear you got your anchor back, Mosnowman.
My iPhone took a swim Saturday, and it's a really poor swimmer. I reached from the dock to the console to get my phone and forgot it was connected to my radio with a USB cord. The cord snatched it out of my hand just as the phone was passing between the boat and dock. Kerplunk! I went right in after it and quickly found it and brought it up. It was in an Otter case with most of the flaps closed, but the one for the lightning connector was open. I hustled to the house while disassembling the Otter case. Dried the phone off and powered it down as soon as I could and put it in a bag of rice. Left it until this morning. I'm happy to report, so far, the phone is working.

Phones need to go into Zip Lock bags anytime they're close to the water. You can also add enough air to the bag go make'em float.

Re: Expensive Weekend and it's only Saturday morning!
I was at the phone store the other day. They had a funky little machine that they claimed had a 90% success rate at reviving drowned phones, even ones that had been swimming for days. Not too spendy either (30 or 40 bucks I think).
The guy said that rice was only marginally effective. This thing uses a combination of low heat and high vacuum for a number of hours. Phone needs to be disassembled as far as possible.
He also said to power down or remove battery ASAP if phone gets wet (even do it underwater).

My memory has never been that great and now that I'm retired it's not getting any better.
I tried leaving phone on boat table, and then sooner or later find I'm half way home and have to turn around because I've forgot it, which adds about 40 minutes to my drive.
My slip water level is only about 6 1/2 feet but the water is dark there and the bottom has weed.
I figured not worth trying to retrieve it at my age and pretty sure it wouldn't be an easy find anyway.
I searched and found a better neck lanyard for the cheaper Galaxy S4, hoping to be able to keep this phone longer - time will tell.
I guess anything around your neck can be a safety concern. Not sure what boat scenarios I'd find myself in but good point. Please enlighten me on areas I should be cautious.
