does it float, or is it sitting on the bottom?

When we purchased our boat this spring, we knew without a doubt we wanted a double Bimini cuz we do more fishing than cruising. It is also terribly hot in GA from sunrise to sunset. It cost us about $1k from the factory. For us it was worth it. Skin cancer runs in my side of the family so I do not take chances.

We have just the opposite problem. We have from 4-12 folks on our boat at any outing and with almost no exceptions, all want to be in the sun except for me and maybe one other. Our bimini is 11 or 12 footer and I have the issue of having to insist some sit in back with me when fast cruising to the other side of the lake just to simply balance out the load. I would say stick with the single until you know you will need the extra shade.

I will try and get pics of my set up soon but it may be a while since most of our lakes are closed due to HIGH water. May be a long boatless summer

We both love the sun. We love it so much we moved to AZ. Having said that, our double bimini top is the first thing we put up every time we hit the water. It is up until the sun goes down. Even with it up I have never once been to the lake and said "I only wish I would have gotten more sun" when we left. That has never happened...... ever. Between the time we spend swimming, or the times when the sun is coming in at an angle (later in the day), by the end of the day we have had plenty of sun. The double bimini top is probably my biggest "must have" option if I were to get a different boat. To me it makes being at the lake much more enjoyable, so it is worth every penny in my opinion.

My wife and I went to the San Diego boat show last week and saw a vendor selling these:
http://www.water-shade.com. They had a demo set up on the bay, and even with a good breeze they seemed to do pretty good. You buy your own sunshade and anchor. We like the idea and are planning getting a set. We were riding our bikes or we would have picked up a set on the spot.

I just bought a BIMINI BUDDY. Haven't had it out on the water yet, but it went together wonderfully, looks great and provides tons of much needed shade!

We use those "towel clips" that you can get for drying towels off the rails/bimini top and hang towels down on what ever side is facing the sun. It helps trap a lot of shade under the bimini, espcially in in the morning or late afternoon.

We do the same thing, but with large pieces of solar screen from home depot. Works great!
