Options for holding gates open
Looking for ways/devices you experienced tooners use to keep your playpen gates open when anchored. I have been using regular wedge door stops from the hardware store but they come undone too often and are driving me bonkers. I was thinking of buying a cylindrically shaped rubber door stop (it has one mounted to the floor behind each door now) and mounting it so that the door could lift up and sit between the two rubber pieces. Similar to how it closes. I figured the rubber would be more forgiving if someone stepped on it when the door is closed.

Re: Options for holding gates open
Most toons have a rubber stop behind the door so you can pull up on the door and set it behind so it stays open

I open the gate and then pull the door/gate all the way up at hinge side and put a beach towel folded up under the entire door and then push down at hinge side and the door stays in that position until you are ready for it not to. I trailer that way also when I want to have the front door open.

Re: Options for holding gates open
I bought 2 of these.... mount with flat part facing seat... lift gate and put behind stop.. gate open -- I only did front/back gate as I rarely use port gate.

add: I just screwed them in but they move/twist a little so I'm thinking of adding a little glue to keep them in place.

Re: Options for holding gates open
The Party Hut I just bought has screen doors spring attached to each gate to keep them open. Works great

I found a pair of high quality stainless steel door stops like this. Simple, permanent and works. You can even use the door while it's open as a grab bar while coming up the ladder.

For our front gate, we just use a bungee cord. Works great and is cheap to purchase. For the side gate, we use the ice chest.

We use a sandbag on a leash (because if you don't put it on a leash, it tends to leap into the water).
Leash is 1" nylon "ribbon", with snaps on it to snap around the toprail.
The sandbag is one we made - about 4" square from nylon, filled with ordinary play sand.

Thanks for the input everyone. I decided to go with the sand bag solution. Bought a package of "corn hole" replacement bags. Worked great the last time out. They stay put and don't hurt if someone kicks it.

If you have a G3 Suncatcher dealer near you, go take a look at their new boats and their door holders. They are awesome and you can buy them separate and mount them on your boat. I think I paid $12 a piece for mine.
Ill get a pic next time I have the boat out, but even when you step on these they wont hurt your feet.

Yeah, but they do NOT float - that's why ours is on a leash. Once we watched the first one go swimming, we decided to put an end to THAT stuff.Kramfam wrote:Thanks for the input everyone. Re: Options for holding gates open
I use the rubber blocks, but if i I using the bag I would mount an EzFender and tether the bag to it. I tether off the dogs leash, the kids toys and our small inflatable cooler and grab ropes when we are just lounging in the water around the boat.
