Looking for a storage unit with cupholder

#1 Post by flossy2150 » Mon May 11, 2015 10:07 am

I have a Sylvan 8522 Mirage and there is a lot of room beside and behind the captain's chair. I would like to find a stand alone storage unit (maybe a glove box type top?) with an integrated cup holder that would sit on the floor beside the chair. Additionally I would like to buy some kind of storage unit for behind the chair as well. I have searched a bit but thought I would ask the experts. Ideally these would be narrow (6" to 12") in depth and long (maybe 15" to 24" in length). The height could be anything from 12" up to 24". Does anyone know of a place to buy a product like this?

Well one thought that comes to mind is that cooler we all have laying around that doesn't hold ice well. Well we've found that they do make good dry storage containers on the boat. Makes a good stash for bread, chips, and munchies and any number of other things you may want to keep both out of sight and out of the sun.

Yeah, we use an Igloo Cooler as a "Dry Storage" box and it has cup holders on top.

I also use it for a "Bench" when putting together fishing tackle and when we've got enough people on board to use all the life jackets in it, it serves as a good cooler for drinks.

I wanted to post here. After searching far and wide I ended up buying this on Amazon...

It suction cups to the panel on the toon by my chair about hip height. I've been using it for a few days and it works like a champ.

Flossy,

I have the same kind of need. There is a lot of wasted space next to the captain's chair and especially behind it. Right now I store all of my fenders there but it looks messy and inefficient. I was hoping to buy a pre-made carpeted locker type box that would fit behind the captain's chair and run from the fence to the edge of the back sofa seat. Not more than 6-8"'s wide with a large lid. I was hoping to store all my life jackets and fenders in it.

Unless someone else knows of a pre fab solution, I will probably just end up making my own. Similar to the rod locker in this picture....just taller and narrower.
