Electric Anchoring Systems

As I mentioned in my "introduction" post, my husband and I are both new to boating/pontooning. We recently purchased a "new to us" 2005 18' Misty Harbor. We use the boat primarily for fishing. My husband is one of those slightly "impatient" guys who insists on moving the boat every few minutes if he doesn't get a bite in a certain spot out on the lake. This is putting a strain on both our arms and shoulders having to lift two anchors each time he wants to move the boat. As neither of us is as young and strong as we used to be, I'm seriously considering purchasing an electric anchoring system. I know they are pricey, but it's a luxury I'd really like to add to our boat. I see there are three major systems (maybe more that I'm unaware of); those being Trac, Minn Kota and Powerwinch. I'd like some input as to what might be the best option for us. I'm interested in other's opinions on each of the three (or more) systems. Are there advantages/disadvantages of one system over another. So far we are liking the Trac system given it's design and affordability, but we are not yet committed to it. I would be putting one on the front of the boat, the other on the back. Please help us decide. Thanks!

I personally don't use or like anchoring winches. If you use a box anchor you don't need chain and they are easy to raise.

Might I suggest an I-pilot for fishing they have a anchor mode that will keep you on a fishing spot, and move you to another with the push of a button.

I'd agree, the money spent on 2 winches would be better used on an I-pilot which works very well at maintaining an "anchor point"

I have the Trac 35 and it works great. Comes with remote control, you don't have to put your Beer down to drop or lift the anchor. lol

Sully, that's interesting that you anchor off the stern. Not a common practice.

The I-Pilot is very nice it does a lot of things the anchor part is not really a anchor but the troll mt will hold you within a 5ft circle wind permmitting, I have it and love it.

Another vote for the I pilot. The only time i use my anchor now, is when we are hanging out at the island swimming. It will(I pilot) take your fishing to a whole new level. Good luck
