Tracker boat ignition switch problem

#1 Post by wijames » Wed Jul 15, 2015 10:40 am

I just purchased my third Tracker boat and I've noticed that I've had problems with the ignition switch on all three. All three stick when going to the starting position. I dont have any problem turning the key on to the on position but they don't want to go to the starting position. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it other than just replacing the switch with an after market switch? (I had to do this with my first new Tracker)

The ignition switch on my Tracker is made by Mercury so it's not a Tracker issue.

No problems on the 2 Trackers that I've owned. And yes, the ignition switch is Mercury supplied.

Only issue I've had is the assembly coming loose and the whole thing turning. But I've had that happen on almost every boat I've had. Just keep tightening it up.

very funny! I guess I'm just having bad luck with switches! I'll contact the dealer. The odd thing is that with my current switch it doesn't do it all the time, just randomly.

Just an update for all of the tracker owners. I took my boat to my local Tracker Dealer and was told that although the switches are Mercury switches, on the base model Trackers such as the Bass Buggy the switch is made for Mercury by a overseas company and basically crap. He even said that at their dealership they replace the switch before the boat is delivered to the customer because of this. They replaced my switch with an OEM Mercury switch under warranty at no charge. This one even looks different but works great. This is the same thing I had to do with my first Bass Buggy.
