need opinions from Tracker owners on worth of warranty

#1 Post by wijames » Wed Jul 22, 2015 2:59 pm

I'm trying to transfer the Tracker boat warranty on my 2014 Bass Buggy 16 and Tracker wants me to have it inspected at one of their dealers (which for me is 75 miles away) which costs $200.00 and they want another $100 sent with the application for transfer. I got the warranty transferred for the motor with Mercury but wondered if the boat warranty is even worth transferring. The last Tracker I owned never had any problems with the boat except with the electrics and none of them were covered .
Opinions, any warranty covered issues from anyone?

Thanks

Are you the new owner transferring the warranty to you, or the old owner transferring it to the buyer?

If it's the latter, I'd give the buyer that option and tack it on to the sale price.

If the former, you're pretty much paying for peace of mind. If it were me, I'd have it inspected before purchase and make the decision (on both the warranty and whether to even buy the boat) based on that.

No issues on my '12 Sun Tracker 22'.

Most warranty problems after the first year or so are motor issues. Pontoon boats often have very simple electrics, and they're structurally sound in the long run.
I would be surprised if there are many warranty claims filed on pontoon boats after the first year or so.
Having the boat inspected and charging that much for the warranty transfer is a little picky.

Agreed. The motor is the only thing I would worry about having covered and you've already got that transferred.

I'm the new owner. The original owner bought it and then had a heart attack so I bought it with only 20 hours on it. I inspected it thoroughly before purchase and found it in factory condition other than stiff steering due to sitting for 6 months with no use which I fixed easily myself.

We've had NO issues with our Tracker. Had one with the trailer that the dealer supplied and Suntracker made it right. (Trailer was wrong size, otherwise fine.).

I would do it, boats still brand new. You may have an issue pop up soon. 90% you'll not need it, if you do you'll be pissed.

No issues at all with my '06 Party Cruiser. With my current 2013 Party Barge, I had a pinhole leak under the front 'toon. I called the dealer, he sent me to a welder that was close to my house, nothing out of pocket.

IMO, it's worth transferring the warranty.

Unless we are two different circumstances, in Dec. 2014 i just transferred the Premier Protection Plan from previous owner to me. They only charged me $50.00, and thats it. I spoke with:
