my electronic throttles shift too easily, so my vote is for OFF.

What's this interlock that other boats have but which pontoons lack thus making them more dangerous than all other boats. Maybe I could rig one up to work on my toon if I knew more about it.

We had a 17 year old die about 10 years ago on our lake after being hit by a prop
The boat was trying to get a ski rope to him and he was hit in the thigh
He bled to death before they could get him to help on shore.
very sad, my motor does not run if someone is in the water.

Always off.

Another problem is CO poisoning if the engine is left idling especially with boats that have an area like a pontoon boat that can trap the gases.

Is gas poisoning a real issue with a Bimini top and idling? There seems to be ton of potential air flow while idling in the middle of a body of water. The surface of the water is likely moving some, and there are some giant holes below the Bimini top.

I think the bigger problem with CO would be if it got trapped between the toons. If someone went under the boat to get out of the sun they could be in bad trouble.

I gotya. I couldn't imagine someone would want to hang out between the toons with an engine running. :lol3

I'd rather he asked the question and learn the proper way, than to just assume and make a huge mistake.

Even on regular fiberglass boats with swim platforms, the CO gas that gets trapped under there is enough to cause a person who swims under it to go unconscious. Most newer boats even have labels on the swim platform warning you of it.

Simple rule for anybody on the helm of my boat....anybody in the water, engine is off, no re-start before an additional spotter ok's with driver.
I can replace a starter etc but not body parts.

No worries on the alleged "ass bustin",,,,, it's all good,,, :fyou LOL
but to clarify... not EVERYONE agreed on shutting it down completely,,,, There were some " let it run in neutral" supporters.
