Floating houses are all over Norris Lake, just north of Knoxville.
Some look like 4 bedroom houses. And they'll have decks on the roof. It makes for a great place to dive/jump into the water.
Norris Lake is one of the premier lakes in the U.S. I've never fished or been on it, but the map of the lake shows it to be absolutely incredible--between the mountains.

There is a house and dock similar to this on our lake, except it doesn't float.
The back side is built into a hill and pilings on the dock side.

And it is.... We moved to Sharps Chapel a little over a year ago and while going to town is an affair I absolutely love it out there. I can watch the sun set over the lake from my front porch and do so regularly... The lake it great for pontooning and/or just about any type of boating, tubing, swimming, fishing etc....

As long as the lake or river it's on doesn't freeze or flood, I'd be happy.

Many of these on Boone and other TVA lakes. From what I understand there will not be any more permits issued for these so you'd have to get an existing licensed boat house. You can update and remodel but cannot exceed the existing footprint. I looked at a few not long ago and wasn't excited about services, and how they're handled... sewer, power, water. There are some way cool homes tho. something to be said to docking inside your home.

Trucky -- What's the latest news on the dam problem on Boone Lake? Last I heard was the water might be down for 5 years. My brother in law owns that gorgeous mansion you can see from the bridge on Highway 19W.

TVA says this will be a 5-7 year project. They plan to bore about 500 holes in the earth berm beside the dam, inject a concrete grout and then do a full concrete face. In the meantime our lake level is about 30 feet below full pool meaning most docks are high and dry, including all the boats stuck in lifts.
It's not a happy situation but we'll make the best of it.
