Saw that earlier, looks like decent money on a brand new boat

I'm on my 3rd Tritoon with big HP. First Manitou with 250 Etec, 10" hydraulic jackplate and some hull messaging went from 48 stock to 60plus. 2nd, the Premier, stock 225 with a Simons ECU for 310 hp, (318 on the dyno) and now my 2016 Manitou with 300 Yamaha. I love them all! So many different manufacturers and options out there mow days. I HIGHLY recommend JT's! Awesome boat! Also, Brad Rowland is selling his world record setting Southbay! He took off the triple 300's and has twin 225's on it, now. If interested, I can hook you up with him!

I know I saw that last night... Talk about a beautiful boat, Unfortunately I'm not spending that kinda money... If I did it'd have to be on another dump truck to make money with instead of money to play this is really the item that dictates what I can buy, how much it cost to keep that running

Bryan,

Did you go with the 300 Yamaha or the 250 SHO with the module upgrade. We considered a boat with the SHO and upgrade. I was a bit concerned about warranty and reliability long term so we decided against it. Getting anxious waiting for new boat to get here......

Thanks jt, you may be able to answer this question, have playcrafts really changed their toon design since say 2000-2012 or so? Or are they all pretty much the same boat?
The base toons and their patented fins are pretty much the same. I saw the boat someone posted on here a while back that had twin 400r motors on it and larger toons so they added what was basically a stepped hull to the back of the toons to make up for the speed lost by going to the bigger, heavier toons. Keep in mind that some of these boats are heavy boats. For example, a JC in the size you want with a 350 magnum won't even think about touching 50 but it will have a great rider. The playcrafts are heavy boats too and I think you might need to get into at least a 350 magnum or 454 inboard to do what you want to do. An outboard is typically a little bit faster when you compare hp to hp but both have their advantages/disadvantages. I prefer an inboard but sometimes on toons they can be even harder to work on than in a v hull.

Do you own a inboard toon mpilot? I'm trying too talk myself out of a inboard but the big sound of a big block I just can't get out of my brain...

I own an inboard vhull rightnow. First pontoon is on the way though, but an outboard. My wife and I just had our first kid and are paying off student loans so we had to go more middle of the line on this toon but in a few years I'll probably start looking to upgrade and look more at inboard toons. The problem was with most boats we looked at we had to go to a top tier trim package to even start looking at the higher hp inboards. Most of our friends have tritoons and a majority of those are outboards. One of the best riding boats, much less pontoons, was a jc with the 350 magnum. Not the fastest boat but the ride was great. Another great riding boat a friend has is a 22 foot bennigton he convinced them to put the 350 magnum in and it runs out mid 50's. Haven't been on a big block toon yet but I've seen a few around and I love them. One guy that ties up with us at the cove has a 350 (not sure if it's a magnum or regular) and captains call in it. Not quite the same effect as the big blocks but it sounds decent idling in.

I'm gonna miss the v8 rumble going to the new boat, but it was the right thing to do at this stage. One piece of advice if you go v8 in a toon is make sure the drive is heavy duty enough. The bennington I mentioned has an alpha out drive and he's had a little trouble if he romps down on it with a full load of people, fuel, bait, etc. Another friend had a twin engine scarab with tame twin 454s in it mated to alphas and also had to take off a little more cautiously.

That's for sure the way to go. The guy with the Bennington mentioned above had to have it worked on a year or so back which was the first time out of warranty. With the cost of the work he's looked into converting to a Bravo One if he has problems again since the only major changes from what I recall were 2 extra holes and adding the belt driven water pump (which I prefer personally). If I was ordering a 350 magnum or up in a pontoon I'd try to get them to go with the Bravo since the 300hp is at the top of the Alpha One's HP range.

On my wellcraft I had 350mags with alphas... I never hAd a issue but I was extremely careful till I was up on plane... Anything I would get would have a bravo 3 or a xr on it probably

I have a 300 Verado on mine. My buddy just bought a Playcraft 27 extreme with a 496 HO on it. I was jealous until I rode with him this weekend. Boat is a 2014 I believe and a very nice one at that. I too love the big block sound but in a toon it was just not for me. I love the fact that I can talk at any speed on my boat. With his , you had to yell to talk, of course he does have silent choice but will never use it. Sure got the looks though LOL.

I have a feeling when the wife is aboard the silent choice will be the first switch she figures out on it... If I end up going that route...

Smoker, is your friends toon on the chain? If its that loud, the DNR will teach him how to work the silent choice.
