I've come home twice with an engine-side connector that doesn't fit. Package labeling is a joke.
I have a 1980 Mariner 40E, so it's a Yamaha--but Yamaha-labeled connectors don't fit and Mariner/Merc connectors don't either.
The attached picture shows my existing components.
What should I be looking for?

Why else would I be asking?
I need a connector like the one at top in my hand. There's not much point in posting a picture of the motor fitting because it looks VERY similar to the standard OMC connector--but is slightly larger. ..maybe 5/16"?
That smaller connector fits my tank AND my 5hp Mariner (Yamaha), but not the 40hp.

the point of posting the motor fitting is what it hooks to,i have no idea of how many boat fuel fitting their are, at least 15 or so, if you want info have a clue, pictures show or explain a lot, ok when it comes to mercury, their a damm mess, their fuel fittings can be a real pain, Yamaha Nissan Tohatsu and several others depending on hp or year being as you finely said its the OMC style but bigger
on my Canadian made mariner it also uses the Yamaha fittings so go figure
should be this male

All the females I've tried that LOOK like that didn't fit. I've ordered one off ebay using the very unscientific "looks right" method. It has the flat brass check instead of the chrome ball.
Waiting for it to arrive but now it'll be a month till I return to my cottage to test it :-\

Well hell.
My "Mariner" connector arrived and it's a bit different than all the others. The orifice sizes look right but the brass check is set farther back. I won't know for a couple more weeks if it'll work. At least it was dirt cheap.
I was really hoping someone here had direct experience with the same motor and already knew the right connector to use.
