Speaker in vinyl covered console

I will be Installing speakers in a vinyl covered console and need to know the best way to cut the hole. Obviously a hole saw would rip the vinyl.

How are you guys installing speakers and subs in vinyl covered seat bases with out tearing every thing to hell?

Best way is a dremel tool or rotozip. Use a drywall cutter and plung into the plastic. If it's a wood console, use a hole saw, drill the pilot/center hole, insert the hole saw and mark the circle around it. Razor blade the vinyl out just a bit larger and cut away with the hole saw. The speaker ring will cover the overcut.

How new is the boat? Ours has the subwoofer cut out where the factory subwoofer would be, but the vinyl covers over it. I am going to put the subwoofer under the console but if I wanted it in the factory location I could just cut, tuck, and staple the vinyl. Ideally you would make a cutout in the vinyl that would give you triangles to tuck behind and staple. If you can come from behind maybe you could cut the center out and drill with a hole saw then tuck and staple/glue the vinyl.

I agree with XSCash, cut the vinyl with a razor blade first, then use your hole saw to remove the plastic or wood or fiberglass.

When I cut the holes for my gauges in my console, I used a holesaw and cut from the inside out, being careful not to cut the vinyl. Then I used a razor to cut the vinyl into triangles and glued the triangles to the inside of the console. I glued it down to help it from pulling out and around the outside of the gauge.
