1998 Dodge Dakota 4X4, 318 V8, works great. I've pulled all kinds of boats and trailers with it and it's never let me down. It now has 140,000 miles on it and it is only used for towing. The four wheel drive has really come in handy, without it I would have been stuck many times..

2009 Ford F-150 Crew Cab with 4.6L 3V motor. I pulled my friends 26ft Striper weighing in at 7500 lbs with no issues either towing or on the ramp. I haven't towed the toon with it but it weighs less than 5000 lbs.

Toons don't typically weigh a lot...just lots of wind resistance when you pull them over the road.

Yea that was the only differance I noticed with my Dakota, dropped my top speed to 70 MPH with a 318 V-8.

Hell I had my race car behind me at a 100 mph and could have done more, yes I know race car drivers shouldn't be allowed to drive home, the race never quits LOL, but hell, you got to let the tow trucks have fun once in a while.

If I haul down the road I use 1 of the 3/4 tons at work.
For launching and retrieving at my neighborhood ramp, I use a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 6 cylinder 4x4...nothing has a turning radius like the Jeep and the 4x4 insures traction on a wet or sandy ramp

If you go to a camper's world sort of store you can get up to a 9" lift at least. Mine is an adjustable but I have it at 9" up to keep the boat properly trimmed on the trailer.

Pull it with a 1998 Dodge Durango which is just enough truck. I slip the boat so I only move it twice a year.

Eventually I'll get something bigger.

I started with a 2 inch drop on the Sierra and was nose down when towing. When I turned it over it was nose up about the same amount. I picked up a straight bar (tri ball) and it is level. Towing and launching/loading seems easier with the level combo.

I tow in third gear & tow mode to keep the tranny from hunting on grades. The wind resistance gets pretty rediculous at 70+. Usually I tow about 65 and get about 10 MPG. It is this sort of thing that will make you appreciate a diesel and a 6 speed.

My son has launched my toon with his V6 Dakota with no problems. I just works a little harder getting out.

Ok, so here is my rig. Not your typical boat hauling machine ( because of the modifications ) but it gets the job done surprisingly well. The only thing I would say is that it pulls the boat very well. Hell I even had her up to 90mph. on accident passing someone. I would like to eventually trade up to something bigger someday. Maybe a 3/4 ton diesel of some brand.

On to the truck. 2001 Silverado. She has 195,000 miles on the clock. The big 5.3 V8 with SEVERAL hp. upgrades. It has the factory towing package, and I added the 3/4 ton brakes ( disc all the way around ). Great since the boat trailer doesn't have any brakes. The only thing this truck lacks, is suspension, but that's why I like this truck. It does look a bit different today. This was about 2 yrs. ago. It now has blacked out lights, much better tires for summer, and custom bumpers.

The 07 Expedition pulls the toon, no brakes on the trailer and I pull a pop up with a 05 Sport Trak.
