well i took the drive to go pick up the boat in vegas...8 hour drive there...16 hours back towing that beast!!!!! damn it was a long drive. sigh...here are the specs on the boat as per the title

1985 aqua cruiser Playmate

has a 150 mercury blackmax XR2 engine on the back... I have ordered an impeller and new plugs for it...what else do you think i need to check before attempting to start it?

I would make sure the thing is fairly clean before I tried starting it as well. If you have a leak, you may not know where it's coming from with the engine dirty and such. Good luck to you, and hopefully she fires right up after some maintenance. :thumbsup

how do i figure out what year the motor is....i think the engine has been changed. The reason i say that is the cert plate on the boat says max 125 and there is a 150 on it so it could be a dif year...

well today i replaced the impeller and the plugs...got some clean glass and did the mix. the carbs were not gummed up which was great...after a few hits on the starter it roared to life...It was not peeing so got to working on that. I pulled the thermostats to help the flow for now. Going to be installing some new thermostats so not to worry...wont be on the water until they are in. well after pulling them still was not peeing. pulled the the actual pee'er and and it was packed with crustacean about an 1/4 back. cleared it out and we have peeing!!! so it does engage in drive and goes into reverse and pees. once i get the thermostats in then it is testing time on the water.

Do you have any pics of the boat? I think mine is a 84 Aqua Cruiser Playmate. I just purchased it about a month ago. Would love to swap pics with you.

Make sure you bleach any live wells and anything where a zebra mussel has been or could be. They are nasty critter that ido not hink you would want to be responsible for planting in a clean lake.
