Yes or No?
I have until Thursday to make this decision....
2011 20 foot Manitou Oasis
Evinrude 90hsp
for the 2010 price of 26300.
Id have to put $500 down to place the order.
In December come up with $2600 additional for the rest of the down payment.
Then take delivery of it in April when it arrives.
If I wait until after Thursday the price goes up 8% cause then the 2011 prices go into effect.
Take it or leave it?

Sounds good to me but would want some good proof they won't want more at delivery. Is a trailer included?

Re: Yes or No?
If that is the boat you want, and you have priced other boats and or dealers for the same boat then I say pull the trigger! (If you can afford it).
Let me tell you my story real qucik. I wanted a 24' or 25' (that could hold as many as 16 people with at least a Honda 150). Fish Cruise Model (4 fishing seats, 2 in front, 2 in back).
I looked at several boats on the internet (manufacturers). I narrowed it down to either a Tahoe/Avalon or a Voyager.
I ended up going with the Voyager because it had foam filled logs and the 25' 16 passenger instead of the Avalon because the Avalon only had a 24' with 14 people and air chambers. That being said I LOVE the look of the Avalon.
Anyway, the price came to 33,000 with boat motor and trailer. I did NOT like my dealer, and wish I had found another dealer. (LONG STORY).
Just make sure you are getting the EXACT boat you agreed on for the EXACT price out the door.
I fnanced mine for 15 years at 7percent (payment was $300 after $3000 down). Plus I pay storage and insurance so I spend $400 a month even if I dont move. So make sure you can afford it and enjoy the boat! MY FAMILY LOVES IT! WE spend a lot of time on it.
Good luck!

Re: Yes or No?
Personally I am not a fan of the give me this now an when it arrives give me that pricing. Not saying it might not be a good deal. Have you checked on outside financing? Usually the dealer will make some money off his financing. If you have a good fico just check around on the financing. If you do put the 500 down, put it on a visa, if something happens they have a pretty good knack for getting your money back.
Now you can get some good pricing in the off months so you are on the right track. Why do you have to do it by Thursday (don't like those deals either)
Like I said not saying whether it is a good deal or not but sounds like they are dictating when where an how........not a government sponsored program is it?

Re: Yes or No?
The timeline is of my doing. When I went in looking at toons I had it set to buy a boat in December and have it ready for pickup in spring. However, if he is willing to give me this deal on a 2011 at a 2010 price I dont want to pass it up. I had the search narrowed down to 2 dealers SouthBay and Manitou. For the same price as a Southbay I am getting the next trim level up and 45 more hsp.
I am opening an account at a credit union and come time to finance come in with the credit union approval and seeing what the marina can do for me.
But the bottom line comes down to the deal. The southbay dealer wont even let me test drive a Southbay, he will show them to me but wont put one in the water

Re: Yes or No?
Do you know if the southbay is having a price increase in 2011? I know most of the manufacturers had a price increase in 2009. Maybe they have went up every year since I bought in 2008, just don't know. I have heard the demand for toons now is pretty strong. I would find Manitou dealer in you area an give them a call even if the closest is out of state. Just to compare prices an if they quote you similar prices as the one you have been talking to, just use him. 26300 is more than I paid for my 24' bentley tritoon with a 150hp and tandem trailer The manitou is a little more high dollar boat though. If you got you heart set on the manitou get it. It is a real nice boat. Where are you located? Can get you a great price on the bentley if you like. Nothing in it for me, but willing to help.

Re: Yes or No?
First, the Bently dealer out here has a crappy service department that does not stand by their warranty work.
Secondly for the same price South Bay was giving me a basic toon with a 50 hsp 4strok Merc. If Im spending that kind of money, I might as well go for the higher quality boat with the bigger engine.
My biggest issue is that I am not ready to drop the 500 on the boat. I had a timeline for a reason, I cant afford the 500 now. But on the other hand, I dont want to miss the boat (pardon the pun) on this deal. I am in Illinois, just north of Chicago. I am told to see what the boat show brings in terms of incentives and discounts. Do we think id get as good as a deal as this one? I dont want to wait and then get screwed.

Katie, You sated, "My biggest issue is that I am not ready to drop the 500 on the boat. I had a timeline for a reason, I cant afford the 500 now." This would worry me. Not preaching but be sure you will be able to afford this boat in long run. If it makes your wallet tight with payment, insurance, and maybe slip or storage fee. You may want to think awhile on this and maybe consider used? Remember to budget in maintenance, fuel, also you may want some toys like tubes etc. Not to mention packing, food, ice and beer.
If you have considered all this and you feel comfortable... Go for it
Good luck with the decision. Bill

Re: Yes or No?
I got told of the price Sunday and was told he needs 500 by Friday, thats what bugs me. 500 in a few months is not a problem, but this month I cant swing it. I already factored in a all the little finances of gas, vests, ropes etc.
What do we think of boat show deals? How do those work? Think I could get a better deal come Dec like originally planned?

Re: Yes or No?
Katie, its like playing the stock market. Maybe win, maybe loose. I bought mine last year a couple weeks before the boat show and the price was the same but I would have not got my slip if I had waited. Its a roll of the dice. Good luck! Bill

Re: Yes or No?
I have access to three boat shows early in the year, so my options may be greater than yours. And yes, some do offer "special show pricing". But, nowadays, not sure about dealers and inventory. At one time, dealers took on a bunch of "showroom" models and the accompanying floor plan financing. So if they could sell them early in the season, they could save some bucks. With floor plans getting tighter, they may have fewer models and sell mainly to order. So no big savings to be had.katieclooney wrote:I got told of the price Sunday and was told he needs 500 by Friday, thats what bugs me. 500 in a few months is not a problem, but this month I cant swing it. In my case, I was still trying sell my old rig when the boat shows were in full swing. So I had to wait. Once it was sold, I went around to the various dealers, some willing to deal and some not. The dealer I chose really wanted to sell the model I could live with at a very attractive price. Honda financed the deal cheaper than what I could get at the credit union.
I would not be coerced into locking in a certain price. I'd take my chance either at the boat show or mid-spring when they may want to clear inventory.
