Bar-B-Que....yes or no
I have been hearing good and bad things about having a Bar-B-Que on my pontoon. The good is obvious, but I heard they can make a mess of a pontoon, what with the grease and all that. If I decide to go for one, I would appreciate any recommendations you guys might have.

Put down a heavy Poly Propylene tarp. Fold it up after the Barb Q is over and cleanup time begins. Wash it up good in the yard when you get it home and use it again if you should ever decide to do it again. Or have some other messy kind of party.jimbo753 wrote:I have been hearing good and bad things about having a Bar-B-Que on my pontoon. By your sig, it looks like you have a new toon. If that's the case, you want one that hangs out over the water I would think. Let all the grease feed the fish.
I had a homemade keg grill on my old toon and it made a mess on the deck (had all aluminum, no carpet up there, but still made a mess).

I have never had a grill on a boat (never wanted one) so I don't know if i can give you info about the grill mess. I do know anytime people eat on a boat, a certain amount will end up on your boat.

I've been thinking about adding one too. Like others, I'm concerned about the mess but it would sure beat sandwiches! Some grilled steaks, burgers, chicken, etc is sounding pretty good for this summer! It'll be nice to hear more opinions on this from those who have grills. I think I'd lean toward something that hangs over the water too.

Re: Bar-B-Que....yes or no
I was just trying to post a picture and my phone died, so I will post you a picture of mine tomorrow....I have used it every single day ive ever been out on the boat. I just cooked 4 lbs of chicken wings on it last weekend and ive never had a problem with anything getting on the boat, I let the grease run into the water and throw the "junk" in the trash can. I think mine took me about 35 dollars to make and it has had no problems with anything ive put on it. If you can weld yourself or know someone who can weld it works great, take down on it is easy and you can cook on it going down the river.

Thinking of my four Grand-kids I guess.

Re: Bar-B-Que....yes or no
I have a grill-4-all and it hangs over the rail, never had any problems with grease or any mess but I typically only grill burgers or brats. I love it, and use it both on the boat as well as on the shore when camping!!

Mine hangs over the rail. Since we raft up alot, it's mounted on the bow fence rail. I have to warn people floating in rafts to watch out for hot grease when I'm cooking though...

I have a magma kettle grill, it hangs over the edge and I also have feet for it. I just upgraded mine to the larger version I so I will be selling my original one. But the magma grills are nice, hanging out over the edge of the boat no one gets burnt and not grease mess. Worst thing ever happened was a fed the fish a better cheddar hot dog once.

Re: Bar-B-Que....yes or no
the grill I made......I just pick it up slide it in the hole and when I'm done slide it back out ( I know what else that sounds like) cost about $35 bucks.....so no big deal when If I want a larger one but so far I have no complaints....the part mounted to the rail stays in place and the part bolted to the grill detatches.

Re: Bar-B-Que....yes or no
We had the big Magma (i think it was the Catalina) on the boat since it was new. I have a rail mount for it, and you need to throw a towel down near it or grease will get on your carpet. I also figured out if you buy the lean burgers and other meats you won't have nearly as much grease coming out of the grill, and you won't have fires. After having one for so long I don't think I can do without one. We can have 10-15 people on the boat and grill up a bunch of burgers or carne asada and feed everyone. I need to buy a new one because ours was stolen last year though. Hard to fork over almost 600 bucks for a new one...
