Canal days...priceless! I don't know how you handle living in Liberal land, though. I lived in MoCo for many years, and have no desire to go back. I do like Baltimore, but even with the downturn, water access is too rich for me.

Thanks for all the input guys. Sounds like there are alot of good choices out there. I have a big house 15 minutes from work now and an hour from my lake place. It is just a short season here. We where out on the boat yesterday though and it was awsome. I hadn't thought much about the kids sports and activities, that is a good point. Roland, I am a finance director at at a 200 to 250 car a month Toyota store. The kid that didn't know Toyota made the Avalon was a poorly trained no self motivation salesmen for sure. When I sold cars, I knew everything about them. You have to. Thanks for all the info guys.

I live on the Eastern Shore, liberals are few and far between around here :rofl :rofl :rofl Actually it's only 3 counties in Md. that are predominately liberal, unfortunately they have the population centers.

In fact there's been talk of secession from Md. many times. I say we give Prince Georges, Montgomery and Baltimore County to DC and keep the rest of the state to ourselves.

The people I know who are still there say Chuck county is going to the dogs too.
Most of my family moved to St Mary's county, as far south as you can get in Md and still have dry feet.

I got the hell out of PG county 28 years ago and that was 10 years too late. I worked in Monkey County. I certainly know what you mean.

I've only been to Maryland once for a wedding. My wife went to Loyola in Baltimore so she has some friends there. It was about 100 degrees with 90% humidity, and the wedding was outdoors. I literally felt like the clouds were bitch slapping me. I have had that same feeling here in Florida many times as well. I'm spoiled though because I came from Southern California. It is between 60 and 80 degrees 95% of the time. It is the best climate in the US...unless you like snow and humidity.

Yep us Eastern Shore people have a saying (and bumper stickers): "There's no life west of the bay" :rofl

Lake Murray is terrific. Beautiful lake with deep water. You can feel like you are in the country but be within 15 minutes of Columbia, SC (the state capital).

$500,000 will get you a waterfront home. In fact, a house by me is on the market and has been reduced to under $479,000. It is a relatively new three story home with dock, boat ramp, and waterfront gazebo. (divorce sale -- might even be a foreclosure at the current price)

The San Joaquin Delta (Stockton/Sacramento/Antioch) area. Aside from Sturgeon and Sea Lions there's really nothing to hurt you in the water, few bugs and amazing weather year round. Plus there's many places on the water under $500k. There's even lakes nearby to live on such as Tulloch or Commanche. We arguably have the best weather anywhere in the United States, maybe the world.

As you can tell, there are many, many places to choose from in this country. Everyone has been very candid in their opinions, and I agree with most about their lakes. You might consider the cost of living, including state income taxes and property taxes, in your decision.

The quality of life around the water is certain preferable to living in a big, hot city in the Summer. Boating through the Fall is great, with brilliant blue skies and chasing coots and ducks up and down the lake. Spring brings incredible fishing in many places, especially crappie fishing.

Relatively few Toyota dealerships (or any other brand dealerships) are selling 250 units outside a 4+ million city like Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Miani/Ft. Lauderdale. Maybe Atlanta's Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona would be a good fit for you.

I retired from a captive finance company, and know the automobile business as well as anyone. I DIDN'T KNOW DEALERSHIP FINANCE MANAGERS HAD TIME TO GO TO THE LAKE AFTER WORKING SIX 14 HOUR DAYS A WEEK. LOL! :nana

got my tax bill the other day good news it was much lower than last year. the bad news the property took a pretty good hit. that's okay since it exponentially higher than purchased price. to every dark cloud there is a silver lining.
