Good luck Gramps. Judging by your posts I know you were very excited about getting her. It'll all work out. Keep your head up!!

I would imagine that Mercury has a service rep living in the Atlanta area, and that he can virtually run over to the dealership to inspect the problem. I wouldn't be surprised to see them "borrow" a second engine from another local dealer to get you up and running.

All in all, it'll work out just fine for you.

Well that sucks. Not exactly a confidence builder for that new motor. In fact I just googled " blown up 2012 mercury 150" and your post popped right up, something no company wants to see. I wonder if there is any connection between your motor blowing up and a large backorder of that particular OB? Hmmmmm.

Talk about a punch in the gut! It's like waiting for Christmas morning, only to find out that Santa flew right past your house. Or the Easter Bunny was found shot in your front yard.
Hang in there; think about the stories you'll be able to tell at the marina about the hole in your motor.

Maybe my other thread on unhappy customers is bitting me in the A$$, LOL!
I'm sure it will all work out.

I bet this was a pretty rare thing but that is no reason why you shouldn't make Mercury do a little dance and throw you some gifts. I would really be wanting pictures (you get to take yourself) and a real good explanation about what blew up. They probably won't really say why)
They should be really trying to keep you happy. Enjoy it. A nice warranty extension is always a cookie they can throw fairly painlessly.
See if you can get a gauge upgrade or something ;)
I think your next motor will be fine and you still get the story.

Gramps.... so sorry to hear about your new motor blowing up... but i gotta believe that's just a freak accident... like everyone else has said, it's good that it happened while it was still in the dealers hands instead of yours... but I think I would push for a longer engine warranty as a customer service just to give me peace of mind about owning that motor after what's happened... I'm sure the new one will fire right up and run like a top... keep us posted and good luck!

I think right now, anybody who buys one gets the 5 year warranty. You need to look into that Gramps. You probably qualify for it anyway.

I hope Mercury is nicer to deal with than Suzuki. Long-story short, my motor blew up on the previous owner (friend of mine) at the beginning of its third season with only 40 hours on it. Dealer had it from early-June to late-October (our entire boating season). Suzuki and the dealer did add an extra year of warranty since they had it in their shop for literally the entire boating season, but the problem was he had to fight them tooth & nail for it. I may trade in this motor next year but pretty sure it won't be a 'Zuk.

That all said, it already sounds like Merc is doing much better than Suzuki. Depending on the conclusion of this story I may be getting a Merc.

I asked the salesman to ask Mercury for their top of the line warranty, seeing how long I had to wait and then the thing blowing up.

The dealer already shipped the motor back to Mercury as Mercury was very nervous as to what caused the problem.

Geno, I know how you feel as it makes me nervous also. I hope it's just a fluke thing that happened.

Gramps,

Very bummed for you since you were waiting so long for it. As I have that motor, I'm bummed to see an issue. Mine has been great so far. Hopefully its an exception. Hope Merc gets you on the water soon.
