Where to put a subwoofer

#1 Post by The_Hellbilly » Wed May 02, 2012 1:55 pm

I thought this was a good idea (not my sub or console)

I was thinking the same thing. It is a convenient spot and wiring would be as easy as it gets.

I decided against it because I was worried that it could cause rattles. It could be a good way to find out how securely everything was mounted in your console.

I built a couple boxes, have them under a couple seats. Have them firing down so they are not exposed to water. I just put some 1" riser feet on the boxes for airflow underneath.

Yea, no way would I want the sub aimed directly at me. Don't think it would sound very good mounted into plastic.

I got a suggestion but you have to put quick disconects on it in case you wanted to leave the toon and it might hurt if you sit down :rofl :rofl :rofl

When you can hear someone talking in a normal voice 1/4 mile away, sounds really travel over water.

I would rather spend my money on a higher quality sound system than one with a subwoofer. Boaters that you can feel coming from 5 miles away can be somewhat of a nuisance to other people on or around the lake.

Yep never really noticed how sound travels on water or an open area. Was sitting on the deck the other night and could hear a conversation. First though it was a neighbor but finally realize it was over 1/4 mile and actually almost a half mile away.
ps. Moving truck should be here in the morning..........destination is the lake house on Oconee, I built last year. I now see why lots of people sell their furniture when moving long distances and just buy replacement stuff when they get there. Never really realized how far a case of beer went in my younger days. That's about what my previous moves took.Wish me luck and good bye Atlanta and all her libs.............

I'd have to spend about five grand on a speakers to even have hope to hear it over the wake board boats on my lake. Of course in Dallas the rule of thumb is bigger is always better.

Thanks for ALL of the replies, even the ones from some of you who have no clue how much bass one 10" sub will produce in an open air environment. :rofl Ghetto bass, this is not. This is a "free air" sub and the console is fiberglass (not plastic), but there may be some issues with vibrating gauges.

I'm jealous of those of you who have quiet, peaceful lakes and are worried about someones stereo intruding on your zen. Unfortunately, on Eufaula, you need a loud stereo to hear over all of the p.o.s. 1960's model 2 strokes, jet boats, pickle forks, and other boats that sound like some dumbass redneck installed glasspacks/echochambers on.

BUT... what it really come down to is: if the girls on the toon like to shake their bottoms after a few beers, and if I can add to their experience by covering the full spectrum of sound, why not. :drool :drool :drool

I put a self-powered Bazooka tube sub inside the helm. It's just mounted on a piece of composite decking material, resting on the floor. I haven't noticed any problems with the gauges. There is a bit of rattle once in a while, depending on the song and volume, but nothing bad. It sounds good and no amp was needed.

No, the car model (free from relative). Under the helm has only got damp not soaked, and the sub is off the floor anyways, so no problem.
