you have to replace the plugs in a 2 stroke? lol, my old 2003 Mercury 50 was 7 years old before I replaced the plugs and they looked good when I did. Wonder how long I could have went?

I don't even know if I need to, but I figured for $9 it couldn't hurt.

Re: spark plugs and water seperator filter
OK, I'm not sure what I have learned from this thread was what I should have learned, but it did inspire me to do some research.
Am I the only one that was wondering: "What is a sawbuck?"
Interestingly, here is what I learned:
A sawbuck is typically another name for a sawhorse; in particular one which, at each end, has a crossed pair of legs. It is also slang for a ten-dollar bill as older versions of this particular bill incorporated "X", which is the Roman numeral for the number ten. The slang term came into use as the numeral bears a resemblance to an end of a sawhorse. This slang was most widespread during the days when there were large-sized notes.
Sawbuck(s) is also used to describe a ten sack or dime of marijuana when used in inner city Chicago. In poker parlance, "sawski" is used to refer to a sawbuck.
It is interesting to note that a double sawbuck is the slang used to refer to a twenty- dollar bill. Also, while a sawbuck is occasionally abbreviated as simply 'a saw', it is never called just a buck, since that is the term given to a one-dollar bill.
Now, earlier in the thread I saw Ron offer up the sawbuck, but then he said to the winner of the bet something about being $5 richer. So, I also learned something else from this thread: If you ever make a bet with Ron, do it in a currency that you both understand or he may not pay up appropriately in the event of a loss!
Just kidding, Ron!
As for the spark plug and fuel/water separator, I learned to use double stainless steel with gobs of anti-sieze on everything and torque the living heck out of it with the largest wrench one can find on the plugs after you drop them on the ground a few times to get the gap just so, while filling the fuel filter with lighter fluid if you live in a saltwater environment, right?

Isn't stainless a litle softer and the threads can strip easier? NOt sure renough to bet a saw buck on it, but I did have some trouble with a battery that had stainless steel threads that striped or gaulded...I learned to use double stainless steel with gobs of anti-sieze on everything and torque the living heck out of it ...

Re: spark plugs and water seperator filter
Just changed my water seperator fuel filter. Had to take it off the boat and put it in a vice. Dang thing was on tight.

Re: spark plugs and water seperator filter
I have a Racor spin on and I use a regular oil filter wrench.
Be sure you lube the new one. don't put on so tight.
