Where Would You Mount the Humminbird?

#1 Post by Mosnowman » Thu Jan 31, 2013 10:08 pm

So I have a new Humminbird 597- 5 inch screen and would love some advice/opinions from you experienced guys on where to mount it? I have included a link to the pictures of the helm. I have a ram mount that I will be using so I can play with angles to make it work. I was thinking either on the flat part of the helm on the left side above the stereo? Or possibly to the left of that above the stereo mounted on the angle of the Helm? Thanks for any input!

I picked up a Ram mount for mine. Anywhere on the dash blocked the gauges and made manipulating the buttons on the sonar really awkward.

Mine is in the same place--for the same reasons.

I'd put it on the right hand side maybe in front of the switches or even above the throttle if space permits. What bugs me about putting it on the left is it makes it vulnerable to others hitting it (or even yourself) from just going by the console.

That was where I was going to suggest.

I have a larger Humminbird finder and I was reluctant to drill hols in the console for any kind of mount. I built an aluminum bracket that bolts onto the right side of the fiberglass console using the horn and the horns mounting features, no drilling required in the boat. The bracket supports the finder and its factory mount and looks really good. I will try to get pics ASAP.

Mine is mounted in the dash but if I ever add and external one it will be on a gimbal mount so I can swing it around to see it if I am fishing in the front of the toon.
