It is a boat motor, just like any other boat, its hard to steer backwards in the wind, but backs up just fine. JT

volvo duoprop backs straight and in circles. I can spin my 31 foot toon around in a 40 foot space; do it every time I leave the slip.

All toons have reverse, some prop designs work a little better. Not something to over think or worry about for any normal situation all the prop designs will work fine in reverse. Now go get a toon and have some fun :biggrin2

Toons don't have a reverse. Toons have a motor and the motor has a reverse. You can have a toon with no motor - it won't go forward or reverse unless you use a paddle.

There is a chance to salvage the relationship with your friends.....it is possible to have water going vessels that do not have reverse and maybe they were mistaken or you mis-heard them. For example:

#1 - Jet skis do not have reverse. Some models have a lid of sorts that when deployed, will re-direct the jet force.

#2 - Air boats do not have reverse.

#3 - several "mud" motors (used in hunting situations) do not have a reverse as they do not have a transmission.

#4 - some ocean going vessels do not have reverse, instead they have pods that turn the entire prop unit

So it is possible to have a pontoon boat outfitted with either a jet ski engine or an air boat engine or a mud motor which would let your friends off the hook.

Of course, you could have a regular inboard/outboard or outboard engine on a pontoon boat that is broken and will only go into forward (or reverse).

There are other possibilities (though slight) that could allow you and your friends to be correct but in all likelihood, they are jerks.

I found one! Its contingent on a water test.......with that said our waterways are closed due to bad flooding. So now we play the Waiting Game :drink4

No such thing as a stupid question! You never know about some things if you don't ask! Working at a chemical plant, if a new person won't ask questions, we take it that he knows the job! Then you least expect it, well....Look at the plant in Waco! Shit happens!
I tell I my trainee's to ask all the questions you want! If I don't have the answer, we can sure find it, together, and both learn! Same here....
Congrats on the boat!

Here's your Random Stupid Answer.
I'll put it in quotes, so your less intelligent friends can find it easier:
It is correct that Pontoon Boats do not have a Reverse function. Because Pontoon Owners are More Intelligent, Pontoon Boats are equipped with a "Negative Forward Velocity" mode, which works in a superior fashion.
