deploying and retracting trolling motor

#1 Post by GGALVIN » Thu May 08, 2014 11:07 am

Bought a use pontoon from a guy who has it bow mounted with a Minn Kota power drive v-2 trolling motor. He has never used it, as a second owner! When you push down on the "deploy assist lever", should I just push it forward to get it in the water? It doesn't "go down" easily.
Just push it straight forward until it drops vertical? It seems to hang up on the curved resting place. Not sure I described the problem very well. Thanks for any help offered.

I have that same setup on my toon you just adjust the locking ring to the depth you want the motor, when not in use just pull it straight up an let the lever lock it up.
I will look for a picture of mine.

I have a MinnKota Terrova with the same release set-up. If I read your question correctly: in order to deploy the motor, push the release handle in and then down. Hold onto the head of the motor so it doesn't slam down.
Let me know if that answers your question.

If the shaft appears to be stuck, you can use something like Armor All, or another cleaner/protectant to slick up the shaft. Be careful though, as once you clean and put the stuff on, the shaft will be pretty slick. It should deploy easily. I have a PD-2 and had the problem on my fish/ski boat and this did the trick. (You could probably use WD-40 also).
