Extending my Attwood Swivl-eze Seat?

Has anyone had success with installing a longer post on their Attwood Seat? It is factory installed and as you can see in the picture the length is short! After visiting the Attwood site I am now more confused as to whether their is an easy mod? I simply would like a longer post and the ones at Bass Pro have a black plastic wedge on the bottom which I think are not thick enough? Anyway....thoughts?

usually the post is welded to the base underneath. How much more height do you need? if its just an inch or two you could make some spacers/rings out of 3/4" marine ply to place between the base and the floor or make a spacer for the 6" square between the seat and the top of the mount and use longer bolts.

I don't know about extending your existing pedestal, but for $79 you can make the problem go away. I bought this and it was the best $79 I ever spent on the boat.

I replaced my original seat along with a longer post and new base. Remove the seat from the post The post should twist out but, if you cannot get it out, simply unscrew the base and install a new base with a new post. It is an easy task.

So my next concern is that if I have underskinning I am worried when I unscrew the base the nut will drop? Or are those screws screwed into a permanent fixture or simply the plywood underneath?

Also the amazon suggestion...how is that any different than what I already have? The pictures may be deceiving but is it a lot longer base?

I'm not a skilled do it your selfer so I am very cautious before I possibly mess something up.

I put a 1in. wood spacer between the square pad on top of post and the seat. Quick easy and cheap, and should last the life of the boat.
