sorry if my "Best propane heater" thread is a repeat,,,,

#1 Post by grouser » Wed Feb 11, 2015 10:15 pm

But the search function sorta failed me. I'm looking for a propane space heater for the Party Hut. Got plenty of ventilation and use the boat year-around so I need big heat and economical to boot. Probably a pipe dream right?? LOL Looking for first hand knowledge cuz reviews are all over the place and I want to hear from fellow boaters on what works and what doesn't,,,, thanks !!

Check with Rv parts dealers, in my old RV I had a 12 volt forced air furnace and a space heater mounted in the cabinet by the door so you can run extra heat up front, after a quick look at Campers World I found a few,

This is like the one I have up front of my camper, if it looked newer I'll just sell you that one

the Big Buddy is a nice unit with a bit in Fan that runs forever off 4D batteries. Plenty of heat also, use mine icefishing all winter and even heats up my 20x24 garage nicely when I need to wrench on something in the winter.

this is the one I'm leaning towards at the moment. Can it be run WITHOUT the fan running? (in case we run out of batteries)?

Here's a couple of heaters I picked up at flea markets . The one on the left "Mr Heater" is for inside the 8x12 cabin and the other is for outside on deck. Both are propane and work very well but I live in central fla. and we don't see winters colder than the 30's.

Never gave a thought about the front of the boat. Not sure I have room for the heater like you have there,,,, how far away does the heater need to be from combustibles???

I just climbed off my boat after taking a couple of measurements. Even at 20 below (and dropping), my Little Buddy was enough to keep my 8x8 shack tolerable. A word of caution tho, I killed one several years ago by not using a filter in line between the 20# tank and the Buddy. The Mr. Heater guys said the orifices are very small and hard to clean. Since I got my new one and change filters once a year, not a single problem.

I don't think anyone answered your question about the fan running. You can definitely turn the fan off and still not lose efficiency. I generally leave it running to disperse the heat a little better.
